Oil Pressure Gage
:new: I'm new to the forum and have been enjoying looking things over. Lots of interesting stuff going on. My mechanical knowledge is limited, but I do enjoy my old truck and like to fix its problems myself if I can.
I have an 87 Chevy Custom Deluxe 10 StepSide, 305, that the oil pressure gage doesn't work on. All I know for sure is that there is power getting to the gage. Does anyone know where the sending unit is? Thanks. David |
Re: Oil Pressure Gage
Welcome to the board from South Mississippi! I'm no expert on 73+ but mine is on the passenger side head on my 350 (the sending unit for the idiot light anyways).

Re: Oil Pressure Gage
The oil pressure gauge sender is on the back of the engine, at tthe top, to the left of the distributor. It will look like a bell if you have a gauge.

Re: Oil Pressure Gage
My '73 just has a steel line that connects to the top of the block on the driver's side of the distributor. Mine is still original. It is a coiled steel hose with rubber insulation that has severial coils in it before it goes into the firewall. Where it screws into the block it has a brass fitting made on the end of the steel line and there is a brass reducer bushing that it screws into on the block.

Looking at the firewall from the front of the truck it will be on the right side of the distributor. In the attached picture it is the sensor all the way to the right.

Here is where it goes. Just behind the intake and next to the distributor. The sensor in this picture is for the dummy light setup.

Re: Oil Pressure Gage
Great information. I should be able to find it from here. Thanks to everyone.

Re: Oil Pressure Gage
The sensor in the head is the coolant temp gauge sender.
