bumper towing question (quick cart)

Can I attach a ball to the hole in my bumper and tow a (loaded) concrete quick cart or home cement mixer? I never had anything installed, aside from a non-functioning brake package from 1975. I don't want to lose my bumper, but I don't want to not do it because I am afraid. However, I do feel uncomfortable doing it because I don't have the money to pay for a missing bumper and a concrete cart bouncing down the road into a Mercedes.

Thanks.

Depends on the condition and strength of your bumper. The concrete carts loaded with a yard of cement, I think, weigh in the neighborhood of 5k

this all really depends on what kind of bumper, it's mounting method and how large the cart is. however i really don't think you should move it loaded unless it's a short distance and at slow speed. i.e. under 15mph.

kwmech is about right on weight. i'm a concrete guy i should know.

Agreed.

I tow with my bumper, but it is made of 3/8" plate in the center & the mounting brackets are cut from 1/2" steel plate. :)

Personally I don't tow anything over 1500 pounds with my bumper hitch (still short slow trips too). If it was welded to the frame I'd prolly trust it for more but If I'm gonna do any serious trailering I'm looking into a "Reese" type frame hitch...

:agree: Bumper towing maybe if your towing a little utility trailer, anything over that I would get a reciever hitch. They aren't that expensive, if you look, alot of time you can find used ones in the classifieds for cheap.
