mylow53 build

well i've been reading all your guys post and decided i should start my own blog for the 53 i'm building. I bought this truck for $325 dollars, it was green and rust. there was a hole in the rear fender the size of a bowling ball. the headliner would hit your head, none of the gagues worked. well that was 1983 since then its been used and abused by yours truly. i fully rebuilt the 6 cyl in 1984 and it ran for 20 years. since i've owned it i've painted it 3 times flat black with rattle can flames, metal flake blue and then bright red. i will try to dig up the old phots for you guys. in the last cupple of months i've been trying to get this back in shape. i've removed the reliable 6 cyl and gave it to the junkyard. i tryed to find some one who wanted it but no one replyed to the ad. anyways long story short I have the truck in simivally at Da' Rod shop http://www.darodshop.com/ bobby is awsome he really knows his stuff. he's installed the mustang 2 frount end. we are working on the rear now and we need to decide what 4 link to install. if you look at the photos of the frount end the shocks aren't part of the airbag. i like being able to swap out the shocks with out losing the air bags any ideas....

Re: mylow53 build
Good looking truck Greg. There are a lot of builds going on in here right now that these guys have helped me alot on my dads 52. I am hoping to get the floors in pretty soon and I am going to try and finish the firewall install that I started last weekend this weekend. Good luck and keep the pictures coming.

Re: mylow53 build
I can already tell this is going to be a good one. Is that a modified stock chassis, or did you do a swap?

Re: mylow53 build
I'd go to Jason or Jerid at suicidedoors for your rear 4 link. Im getting my tri 4 link from them for my truck, and from past experiences their stuff is top notch. Its all weld it on yourself, so your chassis guy will deff. have to do it.
Yea you have a regular bag/shock combo on the front, which is very good for lift on a super low truck. Im pretty much anti-shockwaves because of the lift they give, but I do kinda like the ease of install and the ride quality. What type of air management are you going to run? Truck looks good btw. |

ok everything but the frame and cab have been sandblasted. i had a company near the sand blaster primer the metal. they didn't really get all the metal, he missed some of the inside fenders. and still charged me $450.00!! so the second round of the bed parts i'm taking to a new guy in moorpark. reguardless i found out my truck has been shot 2 times!!. i've had it for 23 years and i never knew! it looks like a 22 on one of the frount fender and something larger on the other... excuse my son he just wanted to get in the picture!

Re: mylow53 build
Good progress!
There must be something about these old trucks. My 51 was shot twice also! One in the rear fender and one in the cab below the rear window... |
Re: mylow53 build
nice start on a good looking truck, like to see those lowered projects, keep the pics coming.

Re: mylow53 build
Keep your son involved with your build. He is the next generation for American iron restoration. Let him catch "the bug". I can't wait to do a truck with my son some day.

Re: mylow53 build
he is busy and he is the only mechanic. i think all of the owners come there on saturday to work with him. he's real nice if your in the area he'll give you a tour... by the way the cab over is his daily driver. that and the 40 for pickup...
