Steering stops w/bags
What are you guys doing to limit travel after removing the stops? Is there any detriment to not having them besides the horrible squealing when you reach the limit?

just make sure that the tire or brake caliper is not making contact with the airspring or shock.......

Re: Steering stops w/bags
Sooo... No worries about turning the steering box too far and possibly damaging it?
Thanks, Tony -Chris |
Re: Steering stops w/bags
Funny you should ask this. When I was installing my new shocks, I was looking at this myself. I cranked the wheel from what would be lock to lock and t looked like there was no issue.
This is with the front end up on jack stands, so ther emight be an issue when aired out. Guess I'll find out when I get it back on the ground. |
Re: Steering stops w/bags
I was looking at that same issue the last time I was home working on the truck.I was thinking about makin up a nice little bracket out of 3/16" plate and tacking it to the arm to act as the new stop.Mebbe it isn't necessary though?

Re: Steering stops w/bags
I have had 2 of these trucks with air on the front. I have always just cut the steering stop off. I have never had any issues.

Re: Steering stops w/bags
This is good to know because like gringoloco I will be bagging the front of my 81 and already have no steering stops...
