400 Retool...I just couldn't!
3 Attachment(s)
Put it back into the truck without squirting a little paint on it...aka a "Longhornman rebuild"...JK Andy!
As pulled, mid-retool and nearly done. Still have lots to do but at least it is off the shop floor and looking better. |
Re: 400 Retool...I just couldn't!
are those the valve covers and intake you are going to use?

Re: 400 Retool...I just couldn't!
Looks good stillookin. But I do have a concern. Where is the breather? I dont see one on the valve covers and I dont see one on the intake. If you dont run some sort of breather you are going to run into some big trouble. If I remeber right it will blow the seals out. Correct me if I am wrong. Just concerned.

ouch man...very ouch!
Just for clerification...I now have a freshly rebuilt tranny in my rig... new converter, and shift kit. Either way, that IS a good looking motor, it's all in the details. Now...about the breathers... |
Re: 400 Retool...I just couldn't!
I love those covers too and will probably run them on my '68 327 with the stock intake manifold that has the breather but they still don't have a hole for the PCV either. I was going to patch in a filler from another set of later valve covers but got carried away and painted them before I remembered to implement the patch. They are there for dust shields and cosmetic purposes only at this point. Thanks for the concerns. Now back to my sandblasting and painting...what fun!

Re: 400 Retool...I just couldn't!
If you do drill them for breathers/PCV valve/oil fill... don't do it on the top. I did that, and didn't want to disturb the script, so I did it on the end of the scropt... right over a rocker. The rocker would knock the breather off as soon as I cranked it over. Instead, drill into the side on the intake side of the valve cover, and center it between rockers

Re: 400 Retool...I just couldn't!
I agree, I have a banged up set that someday........
Nice covers |
Re: 400 Retool...I just couldn't!
Longhornman...thanks for the heads up on that. I was also toying with the idea of putting the tall rectangular style breathers on the rear similar to some of the welded units seen on race motors. They would be in the back and well away from the script.

Re: 400 Retool...I just couldn't!
I considered that afterr the fact. I still have one of my ruined ones hanging up on the wall in my bed room.
Edelbrock has some like you describe in there elete line up, you could do as you're saying, and fog them black for the stelth part of the equation. |
