what is breaking point??
 

what kind of off road abuse or playing can a stock '72 handle?? what are the weak points and positive points of this year??

this is my daily driver and my weekend light duty mud truck

i dont wanna push it to breaking and wanna bring it back to a nice looking truck
not really show but something to be proud of . i will be lifting it soon 4-6" with 33"s i have gathered many of good info so far but i figured i'd get an answer on the breaking point??

Frame cracking under stress at the steering box.

Battered fenders from not having enough lift.

Wow, where to begin? I've had multiple problems with all things related to the driver side leaf spring and steering. If you're twisting a full size Chevy with a 6" lift you can expect steering problems and potential leaf spring issues. I have broken leaf center pins, bent the shackle and damaged the front spring mounting bucket.

1st. thing that came to my mind (Frame cracking under stress at the steering box.) Depends alot on how hard you wheel it. Ball joints will go alot faster. Tie rods too.

ok so is 4" lift gonna have less problems or is 6" and 4" gonna have same problems??

is there anyway to beef frame and steering box??

You can box the frame for extra strength.

I had no probs with my 4" lift. Different story when I went 6 inch. I built a brace behind my steering box. I used a piece of 1/4" thick angle iron behind the front two bolt holes that I also bolted to the stock cross member. The diagonal brace goes to my hitch mount but the angle iron alone might help if you dont have a place to put the diagonal brace.
