'70 Panel Truck 4x4 Conversion

Hey All-

I've got a 1970 panel truck that I'm planning on converting to four wheel drive. Did the 70's come with disc brakes? what about the 71's and 72's? What all will I need? I'm thinking leaf springs front and rear, Dana 44 front axle. Which transfer case? I've got a Muncie 465 to go in it. Are the steering boxes different on the 4x4's than the two wheel drive trucks? What about power steering? Thanks-

Gary Stutz

find a donor frame, buying all the little stuff piece by piece is expensive and too much time.
The interchange is pretty much 67 10 86 on the front axle with the 71 up having disc front end. Rears are a little different.

Steering gears for 2x and 4x are different. I'm thinking a rolling Burb chassis of a newer generation would work good for a swap like that.

To bad your so far away, I have a 1972 factory 3/4 ton 4x4 burb that's looking for a new home.
Good frame and drive train too.
Great running GM crate motor just sitting there doing nothing. :(

It would be all you'd need to do the swap, disc brakes and everything.

Do you have a picture of the 67 panel? Did you put a lift kit on it? I've got a line on a 72 K10 that has everything I need to do the conversion.

I do have pics but not digital. Truck had a 4 inch suspension and a 3 inch body. The reason for the body lift was I didnt want to cut floor for clearnce of transfer case. With that lift it cleared 36 inch dick cepeks.
