'74 one ton?
Was a one ton C-30 2wd made in '74 that only had single rear wheels instead of the duallys?

turbo350:
One tons with single rear wheels were produced during the entire '73-'87 time frame (and, in fact, before and after). For example, during the 1973 to 1978 model years, C-30's offered a range of several different gross vehicle weight rating packages ranging from 6,600 lbs. to 10,000 lbs. Only the 10,000 lb. package (on pickups) incorporated the "Big Dooley" option; the less cargo-weight-capable GVWR's were based on the single rear wheel design. One might make the seemingly reasonable assumption that all one-tons are dualies since, admittedly, MOST single rear wheel trucks are half-ton C10's or three-quarter-ton C20's. However, chances are, some of those C20's you have seen from afar were actually C30's. Since the C20 and single-rear-wheel C30 shared most of the same wheel, tire, and hubcap options -- and therefore appeared identical at first glance -- only an eye sharply focused on the "20"/"30" series front fender badges will confirm the model identity! I had a 74 1 ton single rear wheel -- Rode like a brick, but would hold and tow anything you put in it, or behind it :)

Re: '74 one ton?
Thanks guys. I have done what I believed to be an exhaustive google search for pics of a '74 one ton with single rear wheels just to see what it looks like. Just want to see the subtle visual differences between the one ton and half ton. If anyone can find a pic of one of these monsters, preferably from '73 or '74, please post it, I'm just curious to see a pic of what you described Ken.

Here ya go!
This was my C30, only difference between a C30 and C10/20 is in the frame, and suspension. Far heavier in both cases, but from the top side, look identical. Came from the factory with a 454 / SM465, but I bought it with a 350HO / SM465, 4.56 gears with a Gov Loc in the back. Totally base model, not a single option in the truck. Don't mind the C15 fender, the C30 fender was quite messed up, lol http://www.zieglerdigital.ca/public/pictures/74-C30.jpg |
