Rear drums beginning to really get to me....
 

Ok, so i was out yesterday int eh garage swaping out the new parking break cables for my 2wd '66 c10. I do the drivers side rear in no ime and start on the other side. I tried for litterally an hour to get the blasted drum off, and i still cannot get it off. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get it off? Its also a nice 17 degrees here right now, so my fingers are gonna be real cold :( ........ Thanks, Brad...

You will probably have to back the adjuster off a bit. There might be a lip in the drum and the brake shoes are holding it on. To do this you have to get a brake spoon or a screwdriver can work too. Look at the backing plate and you should see two slots. Look for the star wheel and back it off. You can look at the other side to get a better idea. Back that off and it should come off. If that is not the problem then soak the center with penatrating oil and use a hammer and smack around the outside of the drum and not on the center. It might break loose rust if there is any..

Thanks. I did the second one, except without the oil. I was up late last night and decided to give it one last try, and kinda rocked it back an forth real hard with an oversized screwdriver, and it finally worked. After three or four rocks, it poped, and i replaced my brake cable, cleaned all the extra rust and such that was on the center and the drum and then replaced it. Finally, i now have the parking break cables all replaced and working. The only thing holding me back was the drum...... Thanks again......

Next time just hit the outside face of it with a hammer. You won't hurt it.. Good know you got it though..

Hey thanks for the pics. Mine now look like the 2nd page link u gave. I notived the new lines, which is what i did with mine. Finally they work and the truck doesn't have to be blocked at the tires any longer! Gonna start ont he front brakes and suspension now, so im sure there will be plenty of problems i'll be posting abaout. Thanks again....
