Noise from the transfer?

Hey guys i was going into the woods last night to help my bro get his deer out. When i had to back up to load it i noticed some noise(kind of like you are tring to put it in gear when the gears are already turning). When i tried to go forward i just it slipped out of 4 high,i tried to put it back in and got alot more noise,so i switched it to 4 low and it came out but still had the noise. Now 4 high and 4 low both work but there is alot of noise unless i give it alot of gas?Any suggestions?Hope i described it well enough for you all and thanx for the help in advance.
