New Carb Recomendation
 

Hi Guys,

Well the Quadrajet on my 76 K15 is dying. I have a question. Which carb would you recomend. It is a Federal Emission vehicle so theres no EGR, or anything. Im running headers and true dual exhaust. Its a stock 350 with and Edelbrock( I think Perforner???)) Intake.

Truck runs good but starting to stink like gas and it takes forever for the idle to come down. Part of the choke is broke and the gas inlet to the carb I have now is epoxied in.

Any suggestions guys. I think Im gonna ask for it for Bday Christmas present.

I say stick with a Quadrajet. A couple places offer rebuilt units for a halfway decent price, can't think of any off the top of my head.

a nice preformace built q jet woulddo wonders. or a edelbroke or holly. really depends what your looking for and how much you want to drop into it

Well around 400 bucks is all I would like to spend. I dont need a race carb but some extra performance would be nice. I was looking at the edelbrock carb.........

The Edelbrock carbs are nice units, but they are based on a Carter AFB, which is in my book not a great carb.

I would definitely go with a new Quadrajet. They are a little quirky to learn, but the best out there in my opinion. JET makes a few models that have been modified for performance, summit is a place to get them.

I found a brand new Edelbrock 1902(Quadrajet) on ebay for $400 (out of production) that is a direct swap for the carb you've got (and that I had on my 76 Silverado). But another board member had his rebuilt by this place and had nothing but good things to say: http://www.smicarburetor.com , they also sell entire carbs. I've also heard good or atleast decent things about this place: http://www.quadrajetcarburetors.com . I have no personal experience with either.

Put a federal emissions carb on my 78 c-10. Ran like a top out of the box. Use the seach feature to find what you need.

wow lots of good info there!! i heard q jets can be great carbs as long as they are filled with fuel. I just have never had any luck with them that is all.

I have a JET stock quadrajet on my truck. That was what JET recommended for my stock 350. I have had it on there about 8 months, and I am pleased with it so far. I bought it from Summit.

Their work looks really nice. When I got it it looked brand new, and it came with a base gasket, air cleaner gasket, and a new electrical connector for the choke. Everything is refinished like new or replaced with new parts. It seems to be very good quality.

If yours worked well before it got all cranky, get it rebuilt locally. Q-jets are a pain to calibrate, and the one you have might be already calibrated for your engine. "Remanufactured" carbs are notorious for not working well without extra work, and a good rebuild on your carb will cost about the same, if not less. Mine was around $125, including throttle shaft bushings, but that was 5 or 6 years ago.
