4.3L in a 69
 

Anyone ever put a 4.3L vortec in a 69 truck? I am considering it, but I know moving the computer will probally be a pain. Does anyone know if I could use my orginal steering column and dash with it or do I have to get a newer model steering column for the computer connections? Thanks

There is a gentlman on the board from FL that has one. His user name is Dick. He may be able to answer your questions. I am quite certain you will not have to change the column or the dash.

Someone on the board had a 67 with a 92/93 V6 (TBI) , auto O/D tranny setup, and 3.73 gears. You probably won't see a great difference in miles from a nicely setup 350. I think he said he got about 15 city/17 hwy. I kept abunch of shots of it, but can't remember his board name. I think he was selling it about a year ago. It was a nice setup though.

they are able to remove whatever you dont want to use on the computer. there are a few people around that do the wire harness mods and computer reprogramming.

I cant seem to find the guy with the setup i'm looking for. Has anyone put a 90-94 steering column in one of these old beautys? Would it work with the orginal steering box or do I need to change both?

I think even if you changed out the column that could use your stock steering box. The easiest place to make the union between old and new would be at the ragjoint [sp]. Some cutting and or lengthing maybe required but you can buy the steering shaft and accessories from many suppliers.

It has been done, but some mods are needed since the column is a good bit fatter at the dash area.

The steering column should not have to be replaced to use the 4.3. The computer does not use anything special that would require changing the column. If you are doing it because you want to, thats cool, I just didn't want you to think you have to. The computer does not control the starter circuit. The truck can use the original starter circuit with the 4.3 starter.
