Which torque converter to use?

I need to get a torque conv. for my turbo 400 behind a 454 and need a guess-a-ment on what stall speed to use. Do you pick a stall that is the same speed as the peak torque or just below the peak torque?

as close to the rpm that you wish to launch off the line at, ie stall up to the rpm at which is near where alot of the torque is being produced for quickest launch, transbrake is a good thing to have,, quick way to build a serious truck if its light enough

depending on how the engine was built you may not be able to come up with a converter that stalls high enough, but you can get close and have lots of fun

Need to add, if it is a street truck, you'll want the verter to stall below your cruise RPM. Otherwise, it'll feel gutless and overheat the tranny. Basicly, it'll be slipping all the time.

also with a 454...and no transbrake..You will most likely spin the tires b4 u get to true stall speed anyways...the stall does not limit H/P or torque ..its not like pushing in a clutch..if you have a stock stall converter now..and power brake.. do you spin the tires..if so ..a higher stall speed wont help much..with out a transbrake
