72 Rear axle ID location
 

Could someone tell me where the ID number is on a 72 2wd rear axle? An old Pickups n' Panels says "stamped on forward upper surface of differential carrier housing". I have looked everywhere in that location and can find nothing. I have looked all over it with no luck! Maybe the paint filled it in.

This number is stamped on the forward facing passenger side axle tube. I've noticed that on our trucks its on the upper portion of the passenger axle tube.
You might need to scrape it a little more if it has been repainted
