Junkyard price for c-10
I have a guy that wants to sell me a couple of trashed out old trucks a c10 69 and a 70 or 71 c-20. Said it was either me or the salvage yard. Not alot left on them (Iowa Rust)but some small parts here and there. My question is what are you guys getting for a pickup hauled away for scrap. I hate to pay much for these trucks but have to figure even at salvage $ they have to be worth something. Let me know what your getting. Neither of these have engines or at least complete engines.
Thanks Solver |
Re: Junkyard price for c-10
Scrapyards around here are offering around $75-$90 for a complete truck less motor and tranny.I bought my shortbed 4x4 for $350 from a scapyard less motor, tranny, transfer case,or front clip.

Re: Junkyard price for c-10
around here they will take them for free if you deliver, if they have to tow them for you, they'll charge you the towing fee. i've seen some damn nice vehicles that people brought in and dropped off. california smog laws make it real tough on mid 70s thru mid 90s vehicles. we have "test only" smog shops and if your vehicle gets flagged as a "gross polluter" you're screwed. more often than not it costs more to bring it up to standards than the vehicle is worth so people just junk them.

Re: Junkyard price for c-10
think of this they are getting 100 to 200 a ton for scrap. Pretty good deal pay them to hall it away and then they get pad for a load.

Re: Junkyard price for c-10
Forgot to mention...When I hauled off the smashed remains of my old 69 C/10 they were offering $110 a ton of clean metal

Re: Junkyard price for c-10
For a complete non-running truck, maybe $100 tops. I bought my Suburban that was complete, less a steering column and auto linkage for $200, but again other than the column it was complete and had a good 454.

Re: Junkyard price for c-10
around here you might get 50.00 for it if it had some parts left on it..me i buy them for 25 to 50.00 then strip what i want and take the rest to the scrap yard,,where they shredd them..for a 3/4 i get up to 175.00
i dont do this to old cars or trucks,,just the mid 70's and up..personally i would offer him 25.00 each,,take it or leave it..just depends on if you got a place to park them while you get the good parts off.. |
Re: Junkyard price for c-10
I need a good 69 inner grille, let me know if you get one & want to part with it. Does that help answer your question? Didnt think so...

Re: Junkyard price for c-10
$100 tops each Shannon, they will bring close to that that once you haul them in. Then you'd have the left over parts. Scrap down here is $70 a ton.

Re: Junkyard price for c-10
I'm looking at a 72 C20, fairly rusty, mostly complete, bad motor. Guy wants $200, seems a little high, but it has a factory auto tilt and a pretty nice camper take off tailgate, factory rear slider and AC, power steering setup, sway bar and some other stuff I can use.
I kind of want to know a fair price to give also. |
Re: Junkyard price for c-10
some of those prices sound kind of high for trucks that aren't complete or rusted away. My '71 C20 that I just picked is pretty much rust free (california truck), body is straight, and it is complete. Just been sitting for 10 years. Tires even still had air in them. Flatbed it to my friends shop and a little carb spray, fresh gas, and good battery it was running. The guy sold it to me for $100. Seemed like a fair deal to me.

Re: Junkyard price for c-10
Green machine down here that would be about what a junker goes for of a 67-72 heck the tilt is worth that. Bad turbo you got one he!! of a steal there. Ive seen picks of yours and around here add at least a zero behind that amount and it would be gone in a flash.

Re: Junkyard price for c-10
yeah i have 300 bucks in my 68 and its a daily driver, a guy bought it for his son, then son went to prison, i just happend to drive down the right road one day and ask the ol boy if it was for sale he said yep i'll let you hear it run and you drive it then make an offer i did and i left with it best money i've spent in a long time considering its as light on rust as i've seen in a long long while around here

Re: Junkyard price for c-10
Forget that the guy said they might be going to the scrapyard. What are they worth to you with the parts they have on them?
|
Re: Junkyard price for c-10
scrap here is 100 a ton for clean... more like 70 a ton for complete vehicles.
Offer 150 and tell them you'll get them, see if they bite. |
