carb swap???
 

from what i know, which isn't a lot:lol:, i can't just swap a 2 barrell carb for a 4 barrell carb. theres something else i needs and im thinking its the intake manifold. if anyone can tell me if im right or anything else i needs that would be great. Everyone have a great Christmas from your friend up north.

yes, the 2 intakes are VERY different. plus linkages and a host of other stuff.

you can use a 2bbl to 4bbl adapter, i never use 1 but i have heard some people say they burn pistons useing them

dont know how it would unless they had there carb lean.......you can get the adapter plates for aboyt 20 bucks from www.speedwaymotors.com

Yes it involves changing intake manifolds, and you have to do some fabricating for the throttle linkage as well as the kickdown linkage (if you areusing an automatic transmission). In the grand scheme of things it is theoretically an easy swap. However if you've never done it before, its definately an entire weekend job with a few headaches along the way. Definately worth the headache, though.

If I can make a suggestion, go with the manual choke. Its been a PITA tweaking this electric choke and its still not right. But man the increase in power :)

I would totally go with the manual choke on the carb. Granted, winter in TN isn't nearly as bad as winter in Canada but it sure is a lot easier to adjust than an electric one.

I did a swap from a 2bbl to a 4bbl on my 78 350 stepside on the second day I owned it. Aside from the actual carb (Edelbrock Performer), I needed a new intake (Edelbrock Performer again), a kickdown stud kit from Edelbrock, and a generic adjustable linkage kit. Oh yeah, and some gaskets and RTF. Took me a couple hours to do, and I'm not a mechanical person at all. Biggest things to remember are the orientation of the distributor when you take it out. I marked mine on the shaft and firewall to eyeball them back into the same spot when you put it back in. Also, get the gasket mating surfaces really clean of old gasket material.

It wasn't hard, dude. If I can do it, you can.

There's my current setup......600 cfm Edelbrock carb(If I had it to do ove again I would have went with a Holley), inch spacer plate,performer eps intake.

Flowtech 11500 headers were worth about 3mpg (along with new bosch platnum plugs old bosh platnums had about 10k on them and were fine just changed them while we were there)
