Frame Specifications.

Does anyone have the frame specifications for a 1986 Chev Silverado Short box. I am putting a low mileage v6 in the truck from a 1987 GMC Wrangler. The motor will not fit between the frame rails. The frame towers are in the right spots and when the drivers side mount in bolted in the passengers side motor mount does not fit in the proper place. The bolt that the slots in the motor bracket fit over are about an inch out. I am looking for the specs that will allow me to measure the frame from side to side and the distance between the frame rails where the lower control arms bolt to. I have a funny feeling that the frame has a kink in it. Thanks to all those that may be able to help. :drama:

Re: Frame Specifications.

Did the truck getting the V6 have one originally? Small block and V6 mounts are different. Are you sure the engine is going down level and straight on the mounts? An inch mis-alignment doesn't sound terrible to me. You can usually get more movement than that when swapping engines.

Have you looked at the cab mounts and the body shims? They are another tip off for a bent frame.

Re: Frame Specifications.

The truck originally was a v8. I have changed the frame towers to v6 towers. We were able to force fit the motor into the mounts but when it was bolted to the frame towers the engine sat on an angle. The fan shroud was installed and the fan blade was almost touching the shroud on the passengers side and had a better than two inches of clearance on the drivers side. The passenger side exhaust manifold was darn near touching on the motor mount tower. We dried everything to try and line it up from removing the trany support bolt to changing the towers again to set from an 86 v6, but no fit. This is why I was trying to get some measurements f the frame width and such where the towers bolt up too.
Thanks for the reply, and Happy New Year. ;)
