I purchased a year go for $1450 and I'm now the 3rd owner. originaly a 307 3 on the tree 1/2 4x4. I have it all torn apart and now in the process of replacing the rusted holes. My plans are: 406 hydro clutch 465 np 205 with twin stick my locked and disc brake 3/4 tons with 4.10's 40"s i have 97 tahoe seats front and rear but need to build brackets for em. Some may know me as 55willy on coloradok5.com but i parted the willy's out to build this. :aw: |

Re: new guy stepping forward
thanks for the welcome guys!
I have a couple of pics of it the day i got it, then with the interior being stripped and the front clip off. gonna have to find a linkable photo place. also swapping in a 40 gallon tank and an s-10 gas door. i saw the thread on here of the tank but mines on a 4x4 and my plans are different then how that one was done. |
Re: new guy stepping forward

Re: new guy stepping forward
WELCOME i GOT A ? IN 1968 THEY DID NOT EVER IN MY BOOK OFFER A 307 IN ANY SUBURBAN THE 307 WAS A VAN ENGINE THEY PUT IT IN NOVA'S 1969 CAMAROS BUT NOT SURE IF THEY WHERE EVER PUT IN ANY OF THE 1967--72 TRUCKS BUT I'VE NOT BEEN TO GM
GM IS LIKE BURGUR KING THEY MAKE IT THE WAY YOU WANT IT BUT GLADE ME STOLE ANOTHER SOUL AWAY FROM THEM FORD PEOPLE!!! |

Re: new guy stepping forward
4 Attachment(s)
heres some pics from nearly a year ago when I started stripping it and the 1st 2 are the day we rolled it out of the barn it was in.
the gold color is the factory paint but it was repainted over it in the white. I'm thinking of the new GM stealth grey. as you can tell in the 1st 2 pics theres is only one spot of rust on the driver side where the 4th door jamb would be by the wheel well. the rest of "rust" looking stuff is just dirt over the paint. th eonly other dents have occured after stripping it:whine: enjoy |
Re: new guy stepping forward
Welcome from Canada!
Looks as if you found a very solid starting point. I can't wait to see some progress on it. |
Re: new guy stepping forward
My 70 burb has a factory 307 w/ 400 trans.
Thanks for the pics, looks like a real nice burb. Aaron P.S. I notice that your burb does not have side markers. Pretty interesting. I have seen 68's with and without. Is that an early model 68? |

Re: new guy stepping forward
1967 was the only year that no side marker lights where on trucks and cars after 67 every thing must have side maker lights Us fedral Law came in to affected 1-1-68

yeah GM really followed thier own building specs. I was a auto parts store manager and I have seen some wierd option rigs come across the counter. one i remember is a guy has a 2wd 87 c-10 with a 4.3 v6 and all the front brake calipers and stuff were for a diesel set up. I'm not sure what your comment is ment to say but my vin tag, frame stamp and title all reflect it's a 68. I'm gonna go get the vin and i'll see how far into 68 it was built, becuase as you may well know the "new ones" came out in october of the year prior. |
Re: new guy stepping forward
Welcome from FT Worth TX. Thats a sweet start.

Re: new guy stepping forward
Thanks for the comments guys, it is indeed a very solid start. Some of the back east pics on here are just gross(road salt). but it is very nice seeing them all reconstructed and saved.

P.S. I wonder how many 68's came with side reflectors only? Seems to me that it is a crap shoot, some trucks have marker lights, some have reflectors. I assume this was also a transition thing. Aaron |
Re: new guy stepping forward- again
well 5.5 years later... just now putting it back together.
since my last post, I have purchased a 1969 long bed 2wd frame for the chassis swap. the motor is a 1972 454 and th400. the easy way to fix the difference in the truck and burb frames was after the step notch was welded in I used the rear of the burb frame to catch the 2 rear body mounts and the bumper mount. |
