Got the borgeson steering shaft installed. Cake!
I ordered the Borgeson steering shaft from Summit on Tuesday at about 3PM, it was on my doorstep on Wednesday at noon. I put in on last night. After the 91 conversion, oil cooler fiasco and with the header install looming on the horizon, I was very excited about an install that took about 30 minutes start to finish. It was a treat.
Before when the truck was running but not moving, I had about 1/8 turn in play in the steering wheel 'slop' before it would begin to turn with the stock shaft. With the Borgeson shaft, it only has about 1/16 turn in play and feels all around tighter. I am not completely happy though, however I think I realized that I have unreasonable expectations. I kept thinking that I can get the nice tight steering response I am looking for if I change everything out. Steering stabilizers, drag link, borgeson shaft, etc. I finally realized that I drive an almost 20 year old truck with a 6" suspension lift and 37" tires. It feels as good as it's gonna feel. I am comparing it to my Durango which is stock with rack and pinion and of COURSE it won't feel like that. The burb feels really good, it drives good, I just need to accept it for what it is and enjoy it. |

Why do you think that is?

Actually, I am going to go ahead and do a new drag link setup and call it good. I think it can be just a little better, and the concensus over at ck5 seems to be that new drag link ends will get me where I want to be.

drag link shoul help if the are worn out links. i am not sure why my two trucks were diffrent. better up keep? i don't know. maybe it was location the 84 is from TX the 85 was from MA. Also as you mentioned it is lifted and running large tires so that has alot to do with it.

The new drag link ends were a great hit. The truck is super tight now. The old ones would move with almost no resistance, I opted for the pricey Napa Chassis Parts and they are some nice beefy parts.
