Bored so I took some photos. Dial up beware...

My plans for tonight fell apart, so I drove around and took some photos. Photography is one of my hobbies.

I stopped by a cool building to do some truck shots as well... I wanted to get into the motorpool here at Fort Benning so I could do some pics beside some military trucks, but they're locked up for the weekend. Saw some early 80's Chevy Military Pickups, will try to park next to them for a photo next time the motorpool is open.

This pic didn't turn out so well...

I went crazy with the above photo. Here's the first edit, done up like an old-style photograph that faded:

Then I did a pure black/white, no grays:

Then just weird:

Beautiful truck KMK:metal: , whatever you do don't hack her up, replace that bumper with the chrome sportie, ditch those elephant ears and a nice set of rallyes would really do her justice, photos look like something Chevy would use in one their sales brochures:cool:

I like the hubcaps...a LOT! Your the only nice truck on earth probably still using them. Exhaust and rear bumper. Leave the rest. Great pictures....send them to GM and maybe they will bring back the chrome! Lord knows they need it on the new trucks cause they all look like plain janes now.

Well, couldn't leave well enough alone.
(Decided to 'alter' one of KMK454 photos.)

looks good with the mirrors rims/tires and lowered like that but then to leave it stock looking it make me want to leave my truck 2wd and lower it but i need a truck that can haul a car trailer and car.

(total weight around 3500 for car give or take car types and year. then the trailer about anothr 2000 pounds it big hydrolic tilting bed and wench)

Talk about "PEER PRESSURE". If I saw my truck modified like that it would be hard to not attempt to make it a reality. That truck is awesome.

I also eliminated the window visors, added a one-piece window and swapped out the rear bumper. It's harder to see the details in the 'desaturated/burn' version that I posted. Here's the clean version.

You could lower truck and still haul if you install air springs. In fact, you could be riding at the same 'lowered' ride height whether you are towing or not. Air Ride Tech has a lowered dually that they use to tow a large trailor.

Yeah, his truck is nice, especially since it's so clean.

But, some don't have any trouble modding it. Just look at all geniune dueces (and classic cars, in general) that owners heavily chop and modify. But, it's also nice to see a clean (stock) '32 cruising down the street.

hey boxrodz! do you have a similar picture of an 84ish truck that you have played with? I'd love to have one to analize as I am not sure what color...could you do one in black and one in maroon? I've shaved the drip rails, door handles and want to use peep mirrors, still haven't decided on the one piece windows... thanks

I've 'played' with a couple of '81 up swb fleetsides. But, nothing really with what you have in mind. I tried a quick color change on one of my pics to maroon then black and was not satisfied with the color. It lost some of its' sheen and turned out a bit flat. Give some time, and when I get some time later this week (weekend), I'll give it a shot. BTW, we should 'bably start a new post to keep from jackin' KMK454's thread

Boxrodz, thanks for the chop!!!

You're killing me, though... the truck is 100% original except for headers and an exhaust, and here you go posting a dropped C10 with rims and different mirrors. Ahhh!

Now you have me thinking about black center torq thrusts, a drop, chrome rear bumper, and having the sport mirrors installed at a body shop.

The question is: can all of that be done without cutting up the truck? I know the bumper is a plug and play piece, as are the wheels, and I could keep the original parts. Were the small sport mirrors an option in 1978? If so, I'm tempted to switch, but drilling holes and filling holes scares me. I've lowered cars before but they have used different systems - bolts on a 'vette and Eibach springs on a Volvo.

I wouldn't mess with the windows.

Thanks again for the photoshop though! :metal:

You're right. The wheels and the sport bumper (with the proper brackets) are bolt-ons. As you said, you would have to drill new holes for the mirror and plug weld the existing holes. You would 'bably have to talk to a paint/body expert to find out if the paint can be matched without painting the whole door.

As far as the suspension, the truck in the chop is dropped nearly 6" in the front and rear. In the rear, a flip kit which relocates the axle from below the spring pack to above the spring pack could be used. This should give you, approximately, the 6" drop in the rear. This would place the top of the axle within 3" of the framerail. To determine the exact drop, you could crawl under the truck and measure the thickness of the spring pack and add 3" (the diameter of the axle) and ~1/4" (the thickness of the flip kit bracket). Also, if you take this measuresurement and subtract it from the distance between the frame rail and the bottom of the spring pack, this will give you clearance between the axle and frame rail after the drop. If you have at least 3" of clearance, you shouldn't have to c-notch the framerail, especially since you don't plan on carrying a load. However, the bump stop and corresponding bracket would have to be removed. (Companies make rivets, if you ever decided to re-install the bump stop/brackets.) Up front, you could go with a combination of drop spindles and drop springs. Common sizes for drop spindles are 2 1/2" and 3". If you go with larger wheels (>15") (and with the proper backspacing) you could go with the 3" drop spindle. Otherwise, you may want to go with 2 1/2" drop spindle to prevent from having to grind the lower A-arms for clearance. (The bend the brake line near the caliper may have to be slightly adjusted.) Then, finish up the front drop with something like 2" drop springs to maintain some forward rake. So, if you have enough clearance in the rear using a flip kit, you shouldn't have to cut up the truck.
