A/C Questions

Hello, I'm new here. The site rocks. I have a 67 that had factory air at one time. Somebody before me put a 396 in it and looks as though they did not care about getting the A/C working after. It does not have the condenser or compressor. It seems to have all the stuff in/under the dash. My question is would it be better to go with a Vintage Air system or just try to replace what is missing?

Looks to me like you have the hard part done. $$ wise it would be a lot cheaper to go back with factory.

Welcome! Sweet truck ya got there! If you have the stuff under the dash, and the outer box isn't broken, then I would just fix what ya have. Hoses & such will run you a little $$ but either with the vintage air or OEM, ya got to buy them anyway.
Is your BB a short or long waterpump? The original 68-72 BB a/c brackets are for a short waterpump. They are sometimes tough to get but you can usually find a set thru the board... If you have a LWP setup, then you can use the 73+ 454 truck brackets and have a set of hoses made. (SWP will mount compressor on pass side, LWP will mount on drivers side...) |

OLD AIR products has sanden compressors and brackets for any app. They also have a condenser and hard lines to and from the dryer area that are like factory lines. Big block comp brackets are expensive and hard to find, but they do show up on the parts board from time to time.

That is a good lookin truck. I'm sure the factory air could be pieced back together with some time and patience. I went with Vintage Air with both of my trucks.

I would suggest getting a factory service manual for your truck. They have an excellent section on the AC/heating system and you will get a lot of information from the manual so that you can set it back up.
Even though you have a lot of the system there are some expensive parts needed to put the the AC back to running condition. Everything needed is available and if done right the original systems work well with the newer freons, (as well as R-12). Great looking truck! Jim |

Thats a clean ride you have there. I want to know if it's a true 67. Does it have the small ignition bezel and horizonal fuse box? I'm not picking on you, just want to confirm it's a true 67 and not a newer cab w/ a 67 title. If it is a true 67 then you have a rare truck with the Pamoramic cab (big back window) and the AC. Only about 4% of 67's had Factory AC so I've been told. Another reason to bring it back to stock.

Thanks for the pictures and the question plus the response these guy's gave you. You did my leg work for me, lol. I still have the condenser but I am in the same boat as you are. I did find new compressors for $170 ,Google vintage air and on the side bars is where I was finding all the fittings and hoses.

I'm in the same situation also. I think I'm yanking mine and going aftermarket down the road. The PO did some kind of work to the condenser as you can see the metal plate in the pic. I'm scared to think of when on in there.
