Anybody ever buy a truck for only a few parts?
I was curious to see if anyone else ever bought a entire(or almost complete) truck for a few parts.I bought one for the front fenders, and the core support.Everything else was trashed for the most part but the fenders and core support were good:crazy: Of course...I kept the rest of the truck:rolleyes:I heard there was a 67-72 4x4 in a junkyard, they thought it had disc brakes, well it turned out to be a 71 shortbed 4x4.The truck I originally bought for the front axle turned into a frame up restoration.....
Anyone else do this? |
Re: Anybody ever buy a truck for only a few parts?
I bought a 1972 Chevelle to get the black Two speaker dash pad. (I am a sucker for options). Sorry I haven't bought a truck for parts yet, But thought I would share tales of my sickness anyway.

Re: Anybody ever buy a truck for only a few parts?
Tell me about a sickness. I have bought parts cars and trucks that had no parts that I have needed at the time, (Just because they were to good to pass up). :metal:

Re: Anybody ever buy a truck for only a few parts?
I bought a '75 SWB for $500 that had a new motor, but they tore the seal on the trans when they installed it. I put the motor and power steering in my truck, put the power booster in a friends truck, then traded what was left for a few small parts fpr my truck.
I nearly kept it, but it was a rust bucket and 73+ are a dime a dozen. |
Re: Anybody ever buy a truck for only a few parts?
i didnt pay for it but i had to drive 160 miles to get a 72 4x4, i kept the vin plate, tranny shifter and steering wheel, every thing else got tossed or given away.

Re: Anybody ever buy a truck for only a few parts?
I can't even beging to count the number of 67-72s i've bought over the years just for one or two option goodies--a ton of 67-68s that had buddy buckets and/or speedwarnings, a 72 cheyenne super big block, tilt, am/fm, cruise control, 72 cheyenne 20, 4x4 with tilt, tach, am/fm,posi etc.,a 72 shortstep 4x4 for the tow hooks, a 70 sierra grande for the tach and bucket seats, a crunched 72 cheyenne just for the perfect toolbox bed and door--the rest of the truck was gutted. you get the picture, this is a handfull of the over 200 of these trucks i've had over the past 20+ years.

Re: Anybody ever buy a truck for only a few parts?
one of my relatives just got a '77 K30 with a "seized" 350 for $300.
New starter, and it ran down the road FLAWLESSLY. One old guy owner, reg cab duallie bed, camper shell (bed is MINT). I want to kill him for buying that. |
Re: Anybody ever buy a truck for only a few parts?
Most of the trucks at the shop are because they were too good to pass up.

Re: Anybody ever buy a truck for only a few parts?
I've bought several to part out over the years for whatever project I was driving at the time. Last one I bought I removed the stuff I wanted and sold the rest. Recently I traded that guy a new golf bag for the rear end out of the same truck.
no, I don't play golf. It was a gift which makes the swap even better. |

I bought this
http://yukon.b0xen.us/84crewcab/exteriorpass.jpg for this http://yukon.b0xen.us/84crewcab/dana60.jpg It will go in the 69 K20 :metal: A few parts will go to a buddy (tranny, transfer case, driveshafts), then I guess try to sell the remaining as a whole. |
Re: Anybody ever buy a truck for only a few parts?
I traded a bad ass looking (non running) 80 cutlass for a parts car for my honda civic Si.... mainly for the rims.
Going back further, I got a totaled Dodge Omni just for the doors... the real kick in the balls here, the driver Horizion was a $50 car... the parts car was $300. DOH! I have a parts truck given to me for the longhorn. All it was really missing was the cab and front clip.... it had a fairly complete long block of an engine, tranny, all complete suspention.... I grabbed it just for the bed, and the tranny pan. |

Just bought a 71 a month ago, paid less for the whole truck than what the tilt column costs, sold one part for $50, I am ahead on this one.
