Re: stick to automatic swap question
I know when I did my swap, I already had a 350 engine in mine w/3spd manual. The 350 turbo I used was the short shaft and hooked right into the drive shaft without any shortening. I think with the long shaft turbo, you will need to cut the drive shaft down, or get a short tail shaft for the trans. It would be cheaper to get the short shaft at a junk yard. Easy change. Someone else can chime in on this. While you're at it, check your speedo gears to make sure your speedometer will be correct.

Re: stick to automatic swap question
Are you planning to mount the sbc in the 6cyl position? I've heard this is common and addresses some peoples drive shaft lenght issues. But that is using short shaft 350 turbo which is the same lenght as the 3sd manual.

Re: stick to automatic swap question
changing tailshaft length requires a complete teardown of the tranny to change so it is cheaper to buy a driveshaft then change the shaft.
