I think I've lost my mind! New Project "57 Short Bus"
When was the last time youve seen one of these bad boys? First time Ive ever seen one in my life and well I guess I liked it, I bought it.
Approx 27 ft Long. Chevy 283 Small block 4 spd manual with 2 speed diff. Original Arizona vehicle, completely 100% rust free. Clear title runs and drives. Lots of graffitti type artwork on it. Im still in the air with what I am going to do with this crazy thing....Plans are to significantly shorten the wheel base and modify the suspension signifcantly to get it to sit very low (hence, short bus), build some sort of ramp set up out back to haul harleys/quads etc.....anyhow, let me know what you guys think of this thing....or if any of you know something about these Id like to learn more about them. Not much info on the internet on these old things. http://imagehost.vendio.com/preview/...z/DSC00900.JPG http://imagehost.vendio.com/preview/...z/DSC00909.JPG http://imagehost.vendio.com/preview/...z/DSC00901.JPG http://imagehost.vendio.com/preview/...z/DSC00896.JPG http://imagehost.vendio.com/preview/...z/DSC00912.JPG http://imagehost.vendio.com/preview/...z/DSC00910.JPG http://imagehost.vendio.com/preview/...z/DSC00903.JPG http://imagehost.vendio.com/preview/...z/DSC00883.JPG |

Re: I think I've lost my mind! New Project "57 Short Bus"
weve got a 1956 chevrolet bus factory v8 that gm said they didnt make. proved them wrong, and it is an orignal v but does not have the orignal motor in it but the vin plate designates it a 1956 v8 bus. Something gm said they didnt make, talk about rare.

Re: I think I've lost my mind! New Project "57 Short Bus"
Back when Tom McMullen owned Street Rodder magazine, he built a hot rod school bus. Anyone else remember that bus?

Re: I think I've lost my mind! New Project "57 Short Bus"
wow that looks way cool....thats exactly about what i was thinkin on the wheel base too, except id like to stay with some polised budd 22.5"s and maybe a brighter yellow.....whered you find that pic 1 lo c10? i dont know how i missed that episode...hahaha

Re: I think I've lost my mind! New Project "57 Short Bus"
you sure don,t see many of the ole buses anymore. we have a 56 chevy that is about 2 windows shorter than your, but not nearly as nice of shape. we hope to put it on a one ton chassis and keep the dauls in the rear. with the adapters available now, the 22.5,s will be a sweet way to go. i have done a little measuring and i think chopping the top willl not be too hard. looking forward to watching your progess as you post pic,s along.

Re: I think I've lost my mind! New Project "57 Short Bus"
hey fenton, thats exactly what im thinking, i need to drag it home to start taking some measurements and figure out where to take what out....but it seems like a guy could probably shorten the body very easily....i noticed the way the body is riveted together they make it very easy to add/subtract body length to desired wheelbase. im thinking 3 square windows and the rear quarter windows. frame is completely straigth form front to back as far as i can tell. the bus currently has 22.5's on it 4 wheel drums with 6 lug wheels, most likely going to a motor home front chassis....still exploring my options at this point.

Re: I think I've lost my mind! New Project "57 Short Bus"
Nice find. That would be a killer toy hauler. Just have to figure out a way to widen the rear door so you can drive the atv into the rear. A couple of bunk beds or cots and you've got yourself a cool looking hauler.

Re: I think I've lost my mind! New Project "57 Short Bus"

Re: I think I've lost my mind! New Project "57 Short Bus"
as a kid years ago a guy had a school bus but not that old and cool, but he had it where the back would lift up and he would drive his race car up ramps and close it back down.

Re: I think I've lost my mind! New Project "57 Short Bus"
There's short one running around town...maybe 3 or 4 windows, set on a 4wd chassis...but has the '57 1/2 ton style grille in it...IIRC it's yellow with red flames. If I can rememebr to keep my digi cam in the car with me, I'll try to get a few pics of it when I see it parked somewhere.
