Gauge problems. Not reading right.
I saw Bow ties post but did not want to highjack it. I have one simmilar issue and another that is my own. All my gauges work. not well but move. I also have some lights out and it is really hard to read at night. i have read a bunch of threads about how to fix that. Okay my issues... My oil pressure gauge is up at 60 at idle and then when i start to acellorate it keeps going up. When the Rmps go down again it goes back to 60. and if you rev it it goes above numbers just like if you were acellerating. when the truck is trned off the gauge goes down to 0. Does this have somthing to do with the fact that i swapped the motor for a small block 400? The second problem has been occuring since the end of the summer. the Gas gauge goes crazy and gets stuck when i switch to the left hand side tank. it used to go way past full and come down but now it just stays on way over full and does not move. Maybe a ground issue? The gas gauge in this truck is the best i have ever had. when it is on the e the motor dies! it is very accurate.
Thanks for the insight, the truck is off the road till at least may and i would like ton figure this out. |
Re: Gauge problems. Not reading right.
What was the motor before your 400 SWAP??? As far as the gas guage problem, most gauge issues are just what you mentioned or questioned... a ground issue! That is hte first thing I would check.

Re: Gauge problems. Not reading right.
thanks,
Before the swap it had had a whole list of motors in it. originally it was a 305. then a 350, then a blown 327, then a 383 stroker and now the sb 400. i have only had it with the 400 in it though. The other stuff was previous owners |
Re: Gauge problems. Not reading right.
don't quoate me on this, but i believe with the gas gauge that if it "pegs out" over full then it is a ground problem...and if it bottoms out under empty then it is a positive wiring problem..... had one on an old truck of mine that never worked and i found a random wire one day and after i re grounded it....the gas gauge worked from then on
