EVAP canister question

I want to remove the EVAP canister from my truck, it's not hooked up to anything besides the fuel tank, and I'm tired of it just wasting space. My question is about the line on the canister that goes to the gas tank.....what do I do with it? Can I just plug it or is that the only vent for the gas tank?

yes , it is your only vent. drill an eighth inch hole down through the center of the gas cap. plug the line. I did it and it works fine

You could do that and it will "work," but the canister does serve the purpose of filtering raw gas fumes and recycling them into the carb instead of out into the air.

I realize that, but all the lines on my canister have been cut and all emissions equip is long gone so it's not serving any purpose....it's just venting gas fumes into my engine compartment.

Aren't most gas caps vented already? I sure thought they were.

on my donor truck i saw some out put the same vent system for the rear axel on that line for the canaster. Thouth that was a smart idea and i plan to do it in my truck that im building.

Well, I'd say that if they weren't venting those fumes to the combustion chambers, inside the engine compartment ;), it's not doing any good anyway. Have fun cleaning out your engine bay.

Re: EVAP canister question

no most caps are not vented, when the vapor canisters started showing up the vented caps went away. the fumes are vented to the canister instead of to the air hence, "evaperative emissions control" EPA mandated this in what, 75?
