20 50 synthetic oil

I just picked up some royal purple sythetic oil the other day for an oil change. I started thinking. Is 20 50 weight too heavy?

Being in LA, no. It will get hot enough there. I always used 20-50 in my old truck. Worked just fine.

If your engines clearance are loose or lots of mileage it is not as bad. It will make your oil pressure raise up a little bit due to it being thick. I used to run 20/50 but not anymore and that was on a new engine. I now run delo400 15/40 or castrol 10/40 -10/30 depending on the temp. I really like the delo 400 though keeps everything pretty clean.

i run 20/50 with a quart of lucas in my 90[4.3].it gives good pressure and seems to work fine in my truck.but then again mine has 317,000 on the clock.but i've also replaced the pump and sending unit.i bought a 70 with a rod knocking in it,put in 3 quarts of 20/50 two quarts of lucas and it shut up.drove it like that for quite a few yrs.i don't see nothing wrong with running 20/50 in your engine.
