Nutserts on core support?

Can anyone tell me where to find "nutserts" like the factory used on the core support where the upper radiator support mounts (This is on a 78 K5)? How about a procedure for replacing them?

Re: Nutserts on core support?

Typically there are capture nuts on the bottom side of the core support, and the upper radiator mounts screw into them. On my truck, which was originally small block powered, I had the small radiator and the capture nuts were on the core support on the inside of the engine compartment. Now that I have switched to a big block, I had to mount the BB mount to the topside of the core support...the problem, there are no capture nuts there! To solve my issue, I used well (expansion) nuts and mounted it that way. Not quite factory, but works perfect and doesn't require I weld nuts to the underside of my already painted, assembled, and installed core support. If you need a picture, I can snap one later tonight. Hope this is what you were looking for.

Great! Thanks for the information.

Anyone know how to install them without the special tool?

I need some for my project. I will try the dealer in Kearney Neb and see if by some odd chance, they have some in stock. Most likely I will have to go to Sutton Neb to pick them up. I used some on my doors for the mirrors, and all that I did was hold them as I started the bolt, and once they had flared enough behind the panel to grab, they tightened right up. I am not sure if these work the same way.

GMpartsdirect has them, about $2 a piece. Can you get a pic once you get them?

If they don't have them at the Kearney dealership, it might be a week or so. But I will shoot some pics one I have them.
