California Smog Question
Has anybody heard/read about the cut-off for the 'exemption' for pollution controlled vehicles in cali? I thought somewhere I read that if your vehicle was manufactured before April 76 it would fall under the exemption. Can someone confirm that? Thanks

Here is the legal crap from CalARB.... http://www.arb.ca.gov/bluebook/bb06/...veh_4000_1.htm § 4000.1. (d) Subdivision (a) does not apply to a transfer of ownership and registration under any of the following circumstances: (6) The motor vehicle was manufactured prior to the 1976 model-year. g) For purposes of subdivision (a), any collector motor vehicle, as defined in Section 259, is exempt from those portions of the test required by subdivision (f) of Section 44012 of the Health and Safety Code, if the collector motor vehicle meets all of the following criteria: (2) The motor vehicle is at least 35 model-years old |
Re: California Smog Question
The way I understand that 'LEGAL CRAP' is that it has to be manufactured BEFORE 1976. My truck was made january 1976. When I went to DMV to register and transfer into my name, they handed me a sticker and I didnt have to smog it!

Well, I guess if the vehicle is over 30 model years old then bi-anual (transfer) smog requirements go away. I did a bit more searching - check this eco-nazi propaganda document: http://www.cedlink.org/pdf/CED30YearExemption.pdf which was put in place: http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/StdPage....ck/doineed.htm but reality sometimes is stranger then fiction - go figure.
