87 k10 trouble

I have an 87 1/2 t 4x4. I just bought the truck today and already having problems. I ge the truck home and pull around by the shed, it was muddy so I had it in 4wd. Well everything was fine until it started to sin a little bit then I started turning right, I heard and felt a couple pops and stopped. I put it into revers and backed up into my driveway. I played with it a little and now it wont enven lock into fourwheel drive. It has auto hubs and I think that is my problem. What do you all think. I haven't dug into it to deeply because it got dark and I didn't have time.

The auto locking hubs would be the weakest link. Is the T-case shifting into 4hi or 4lo or are you having problems with that too?

It's not to hard to pull those hubs out and have a look. they are notorious for failing at the wrong time. Start looking for some manual hubs.

I also had problems with the brakes, after my 4wd started messing up the left front brake squeals horrible when stopping, I don't know if I got something in it and it is just coincidence or not. I am buying the warn premium hubs because my parts store has them in stock and $45 ain't bad. I am also gonna look at the brakes, might be buying some parts for it.

I put Warn hubs on my '81 K15. It's a breeze, so long as you have a good set of snap ring pliers. Without them, it's a total PITA. I did one side without, and it took me almost 3 hours. I finally said "**** this" and went and got the pliers. 20 minutes later I was done with the other side.

Re: 87 k10 trouble

I changed the hubs, and brake pads and rotors, packed the bearings all while I was doing this and it took about 2 1/2 hours. Got it all back together and didn't like how the clutcvh was feeling so wanting it to work better and knowing it was a hyd clutch I went to bleed the line. Broke the bleeder on the slave cylinder and got some air out of the line and know the master cylinder won't build pressure. I took line off of intake side(line from reservoir) just to see if line was blocked, it wasn't. Broke the steel line off of other side and it doesn't build enough pressure to push finger off(put finger over hole to pressurize). So mon I am buying a master cylinder for it.
