More engine compartment and "what is this"?
Ok guys,
here are some more pics. I have been reading my manuals, chiltons and haynes, have not picked up a factory service manual YET... Anyway, any help in identifying these would be a big help. On the carb pic, that white/off white looking connector (circled in red)...I barely touched that thing and the clip broke, so I zip tied it for now. Have no clue what it is/does... The others...I have looked on the wiring diagrams, but they did not help me much, one diagram said oil pressure sensor... One way or the other, I will know what these are and what they do. Hope this post helps others as well. thx guys, keep it coming! :)

Re: More engine compartment and "what is this"?
One of the ones by the exhaust manifold (gray or orange) is going to be your ignition knock sensor.
Purple in the last pic is a temp sensor. |
Re: More engine compartment and "what is this"?
The third one is the Knock sensor on the right hand side of the motor.

Re: More engine compartment and "what is this"?
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but... the "thing" circled in red is the mixture control solenoid for the carb... Try researching for a conector using this info.
Hope this helps. Al |
Re: More engine compartment and "what is this"?
yes 86 california models have a map sensor. From the looks of your carb you have an e4me (computer controlled carb). Which proboably means your car has ca emissons set up. the pump solenoid controls regulates your trucks engine at idle. Looks like you have a dual air smog tube set up as well.

Re: More engine compartment and "what is this"?
if it has a small vaccum hole leading into it then it proboably is the map sensor.

but thx, you guys are "learnin'" me tonight. :) |
Re: More engine compartment and "what is this"?
you do have a computer controlled carb though. A few states have same set up as california cars as far as smog goes. Just the tests are not as harsh as cali. I dont know if georgia is one of them. you just have one smog air tube on each side? It looks like it.

any of you running thorley headers?

Re: More engine compartment and "what is this"?
As for the red circle in the last photo:
I know that connecter looks just like the connector for the mixture control solenoid, on the computer controlled carburetors but, on a 1986 full size pickup they had a solenoid control dual capacity accelerator pump and that is what that connector is for. Notice there is no connector on the front of the carb for the TPS for a computer controlled carb. Also notice no idle air bleed screw or place for it. Quote:
dual capacity accelerator pump and the temp switch for it. Quote:

First picture gray circle, I agree with Srubydo1986 , is the temp sender for the dash. |

[QUOTE=shrtbx;2045428]you do have a computer controlled carb though. QUOTE]
It is not a computer controlled carb. The electrical connector is for a dual capacity accelerator pump. It is just an '85-'86 thing on trucks. The carb model is an M4MED. You can read about it here: http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/drivetrain/myqjet.htm Try googling for M4MED and see what folks have to say about it. Slonaker EDIT: Thanks ChevyTech. You type faster than I do. :) |
Re: More engine compartment and "what is this"?
are you saying for all 86 full size trucks there are no map sensors. My 86 silverado has one. Its a ca car. california pollution controlled carbs came with the e4me.
