'87 350 TBI swap difficulty
I've got an '87 G20 with the 350 TBI and 700R4. Motor and trans run great and they've been maintained meticulously by the original owner until I bought it from him recently. The body is going to heck with a few spots almost completely rusted through on the body! Anyhow I was looking at how difficult it would be to yank out the motor and trans and put into my currently motorless '78 1/2 ton Bonanza 2wd. I have always dealt with engines that aren't computer controlled and did not have all kinds of scary electronics to worry about. Anyone have a checklist or detailed advice or good reference literature that would help me do this sawp. I was looking at the GM universal crate motors but this '87 350 runs so well I'd like to stay with it.

Re: '87 350 TBI swap difficulty
depends on if you want to keep the TBI or not.
if not, strip it all off, install one of these, and be done with it. http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...4294889131+115 as for the TCC lockup, install one of these and you'll be golden. no "computer" required to shift a 700R4 or control the lockup. http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...115+4294903956 nothing to it all really. |
Re: '87 350 TBI swap difficulty
if you want all the computer stuff just remove it all from the g20 and put in the 78 just take plenty of pics and rewire from scratch AKA ( remove all the wiring in the 78 and put all the wiring for the g20 in it ) of course head light wires arnt a problem cause there on a different cuircit.
Its pritty easy to understand wonse ur looking at it i might on day convert my motor back to tbi but the truck i put it in didnt have tbi and didnt have the wiring to change over. |
