Help !!!!!
Last week I bought a 2004 Z71 with a 5.3 motor and today I got a check engine light that came up on the dash. I went to Autozone and they put a computer on it and said that the Knock sensor on bank 2 had low voltage.
I bought another one and I figgered that if I could see what it looks like I will be able to change it out myself. I cannot find it anywhere on the motor. Can anyone out tell me where it is located and will I be able to change it myself? I also need to know if the check engine light will reset after i get it replaced. If not how do you reset the computer. |

Re: Help !!!!!
I went back and bought the sensor figgering that if I can see what it looks like then I can change it my self.
Boy was I wrong ,they are under the intake manifold. I don't have the time to work on it so I carried it to the dealer to work. The whole problem was caused by a Rat that made a nest under the intake, he had eaten the wire and shorted it out. Anyway the truck was out of warrenty and it cost me $352.25 to get it fixed. I have only had the truck for 2 weeks before this happened I hope I didn't bring the Rat home when I bought it. I hate RATS!!!!! |

We looked all over the darn engine, went to the Auto Zone web-site and looked at a knock sensor, but still could not figure out where the heck they were. Finally I called my brother, a mechanic, and he told me where the darn things were under the intake and what had to be done to replace them. What a pain in the behind, my old '92 GMC K-3500 is so simple compared to the 2000 5.3. My son is going to drive the truck for a while before he decides what to do. We should be able to change them, but really don't want to do it right now. |
Re: Help !!!!!
Its really not hard to change these out. Even a first timer should be able to change them out in under 2 hours. I've done a few of em and can have em done in say an hour give or take.
