Single Headlight "Euro" Conversion
 

Lets see if somebody can help me. I have a single headlight (total of two) which are currently sealed beam. Has anyone converted over to headlights that covert it into a bulb, I think they are called "Euro" headlights.


I need the number of the bulb, if anyone has it please let me know.

most of them take an H4 bulb, I had em on my first gen S10 and they worked well

S10 is a smaller headlight, you think its still the same for my large single ("200mm" I believe headlight)?

Here is the deal, I want to put some HID's on my truck but I got to change to bulb headlights. I don't want to make a purchase only to find out I won't be able to install HID's.

I want to say 1150, but I think thats wrong, these are what you are refering to, just search a place like ebay for them. they are alot cheaper than "autozone/Advance"

eurolite is the company, I have delt with them for years, good product, but be prepared to modify the back of the headlight buckets.

Allright, I did the search. All I came up with is that the headlight bulb used for the dual headlight chevy's is the H4. That's for the 4x6 1/2

However my headlights are the 7x6. And I can't find out what bulbs those use.

I thought LMC sold these, as well. They even sell the correct wiring harness to make the transition less painful.

Yup, but they don't say what bulbs they use. I need to know what bulb it is, so I can figure out if I can install HID's on the truck.

LMC does sell the ones your looking for but like you said they dont list what lamp is being used.

Call them and ask

I just bought the complete set form them for my '87 and they use a 9006 lamp but thats a dual headlight system.

BTW the units LMC sells are of a high quality and fit really well:metal:

I had a set in a S10 like the one in the pic above and they were some elcheapo brand and they didnt fit the light bucket real well and the trim ring that holds them in was loose so i had to wrap the light assy. with some tape to compensate for that.

The light bulb for the H4 conversion housings are 9003's for the single lamp systems. 9006's as stated above are for dual lamp setups.

HID's are not generally recommended for a single reflector, dual-element set-up like we have. You will lose your high beams. The only work-around I see is to install auxillary halogen running/fog lights to serve as the "high-beams". Obviously, some rewiring is going to have to take place.

So the LMC lights are pretty good quality ?

How do they compare in light output with the typical sealed beam ? How about with a set of silverstar bulbs ? If this will get me some more light output then I will definetly make the investment.

H4 indicates the pattern on the plug in if I'm not mistaken (either that or the bulbs pattern where it mates to the housing). Either way,H4 is what I have in the replacement lights on both my Jeep TJ and my 72K10 (both are round lights). So apparently being H4 has nothing to do with the shape of the reflector. As far as HID goes, you can buy them with a HI beam but they are not DOT legal. It has to do with the bulbs not being shielded to prevent blinding oncoming traffic. There is a member named subtle71 who has installed them but apparently he doesn't want to share any inormation about them. I have PMed him several times and he will not reply. I guess he's either very busy or wants to be the only member running HID:lol: . You can go to Ebay motors and do a search for HID conversion and find quite a few kits. I have no idea which ones are worth buying.

You are correct, "HID" refers to the Bulb housing or "lamp", The type of bulb is dependant on your application. What you want to look for are lights that a "diamondbacks" these light housings already have the placement of the "reflector cap" this allows the light to bounce off a mirror to the back of the housing, which is lined with different style mirror pieces reflecting the light forward again. Yes, silverstar is a good brand and you will pay usually in the 20-30 dollar range for them. I have had them in my S-10 for 3 years and have no problems. They do project the lights out very well and you can see great. If you have a question I would be happy to help you out. thanks...and good luck. :)

the H4 fits numerous different housings. I tried them on my 81 4 eye'd truck. I had to cnahnge too much wiing to make it riht so I left the High beam conversion and went back to sealed beams on the lows

I got these from US auto parts a few years ago.The H4 bulb works without any rewiring and my high beams work fine.The light bucket does require some mod. and the retaining rings work with them.Hope this helps sorry no pics of them in the truck,I started the rebuild before I got my camera.They look good and work good too.

Yeah the h4 will work fine on a 2 headlight truck, they will not work (right)on a 4 headlight truck.
