Firewall Distributor Clearance Question
 

Were finalizing things on the truck and were noticing how close the distributor is to the firewall, about 3/8" around - how close should it be?
Here are a couple of pics, not to good but you'll get the idea.

It looks a tad close to me too. It's a little tough to see from the photo below, but I would say that mine is about 3.5" from the firewall to the centerline of the distributor.

Can you even get a screwdriver back there to remove the distributor cap hold-down screws?

BTW, mine is a stock 305 engine.

Did you lower the transfer case when you did the lift? If so thats why it is so close to the firewall. I just put a 4" lift on my 86 Blazer and i had to lower the transfer case to get better drive line angles. And my distributor sits pretty close to the firewall just like yours.

Billy I believed you nailed it. Are you having any trouble with a cracked cap from hitting the firewall?

No broken caps yet:c2: I was talking to a guy at a local 4x4 shop and he told me that it should be fine running it like that. But he also said i would be better off if i put the transfer case back and get a new rear driveshaft made with a cv joint. I will admit at first i had no idea what he was talking about but i did know that i did not have $600 for a new driveshaft..lol
