DAILY DRIVER ? go bags. less mess, less weight.
I dig the hydros too, but hate dealing with the maintance.
Plus they are not legall (in Ca.), and you can get a ticket for them .

Re: Whats cheaper, bags or juice?

i copied this straight from Pro Hoppers web site

An accumulator is a softball size sphere pressurized with nitrogen gas. The gas inside the accumulator acts as a shock absorber and is perfect for anyone that’s looking to get a better ride out of their lifted car. Our Parker Accumulators are Pre-charged to 300psi and the capacity is 20 cubic inches or 0.35 liters. Pro Hopper offers a accumulator shut off kit which allows you to get the speed you want when you need it and a smooth ride when you want it all with the the flip of the switch.

I drove from Chicago to Indy in a caddy with 13's and dros with accumulators and it was a nice ride.... only thing I never really liked was the up keep of the batteries

Re: Whats cheaper, bags or juice?

another question? say I left all my springs/spindles stock height, then installed a hydro setup, when I dumped the cylinders, would the truck sit at stock height, or would the cylinders actually compress the springs? and lower the truck?

The way a hydraulic suspension equipped vehicle rides ALL depends on the springs....and what you want to do with the vehicle. If you want to HIT BACK BUMPER, then it will ride like ****. You run a stock style spring...(cut to size of your choice)...run shocks all the way around (with the C-10 the front is external already) it'll ride smooth !!.

I thought I explained this to you already.

Anyway...accumilators are cool, but not really neccessary unless your running a stiff hoping spring.....in that case you run the accum. with a shut off valve, so you can have selective ride (hopper or smoother)

Bags are way cool as well...you can hop the whole car off the ground with bags if you wanted..they are tha capable now...

But like I told you before..."there's nothing like the sound of a pump spool'n up !!"

What happened with my custom set-up I told you about ??

Also..hydros CAN BE MADE LEGAL....One thing that makes them illegal here is the fact that the "BATTERYS ARE NOT VENTED TO THE ATMOSHPERE"

For example, on a G-body or Caddy, if you were to seal the trunk area from the passenger compartment...then ran louvers in the trunk...you could probalby get away with it....Also you would have to set the suspenion up so if you dump it all the way down..or if a hose/line was to fail...it doesn't fall below the "too low" VC. Keep shocks attached all the way around...and of course NOT HITT'N BACK BUMPER IN FRONT OF MC'DONALDS ON SANTA CLARA ST IN FRONT OF A COP...would help as well !!!

BUT...theres always the general ticket a COP can give you "UNSAFE VEHICLE"...but thats usually because the cop cant figure out what to write you up for. YOU CAN FIGHT IT...I have in the past, with one of my customers rides, and won in court!!!!

Re: Whats cheaper, bags or juice?

The main issue I see with juice over air is the juice. If you blow an air line, there is ZERO mess. If you blow a hydro line, there is mess EVERYWHERE.

I grew up around old school Impala's running juice. My truck is bagged and has 1 battery. It's not a hopper, nor would I want one. If I air up my tank and open the adjusters all the way, I can lift the front off the ground about an inch running 160psi with 1/2" lines and 1/2" valves.

I dont have accumulators and my truck rides good. I have 2 1/2 ton springs up front and the stock front springs (cut a few coils out) in the rear. I am running 12" cylinders in the front with 16" cylinders in the rear. My lines are run thru my frame and I have never busted a line.

the other obsticle with Juice is that you can not constantly return to ride height like you can with an airsuspension.

but you also have a consistent ride quality at all heights..

both have their pros and cons...figure out which one is best for you...

Well I have to disagree...Why can't you return to the same height everytime ?? That is the purpose of the "switches" (??)

Mabey your talking about the RidePro ECM that does all that for you....Thats cool and all, but if your a real "switch-man"....then it shouldn't be a problem !!

"So easy, a Cave-man can do it !!!"

Re: Whats cheaper, bags or juice?

Unless you are getting out with a tape measure to measure everytime you adjust the vehicle you will never know where you are at. With an airsuspension, you simply look at the pressure on the gauge .......

Re: Whats cheaper, bags or juice?

i've ridden in both and air beats the living daylights out of the hydro's for ride comfort.

I know about "the guage"...However simply looking at the guage is not exactly 100% accurate. For example setting the bags @ 80 psi riding solo, and @ 80 with passengers, will yield a different height.

As far as ride IT ALL DEPENDS HOW IT SET-UP. I'm not trying to defend any type of suspension system.

I will install what a person wants. I myself prefer bags on my '63 C-10.....on a 64 Impala Low-rod, bags. On a G-body low-rider..then it would be Hydraulics.

I don't know too much about suspension systems...as I only have been into them for 20 years....So there is still plenty for me too learn !! ;)

You guys have a nice day !!

John
