Unpimping my ride
I recently bought a '73 c10 and spent the past few days unpimping it. What's the strangest/funniest customization you've run across in a truck that a PO installed.
Here's my list of things I pulled out of the truck so far. 1. Carpet, it was everywhere. The only metal in the truck not covered by carpet was the steering column and the lower dash. I'm not talking automotive carpet either most of it was shag. I left the carpet on the floor to be removed later and replaced with a molded carpet set. Now I have to scrape glue off 3/4 of the interior walls. 2. Speaker boxes only a midget could love, mounted directly above my head I was brushing them with my head the whole way home that and two boxes bolted to the headliner just looked bad. They had to go. 3. The headliner with more snaps than a tonneau cover and a scary overhead console. Once I got the speaker boxes down I realized I better take the rest of the headliner down too. The center console hung down farther than the speaker boxes and the shelf in it was so small I could barely put my hand inside. Once I got the console down I realized I better take the whole headliner out because the speaker boxes and console were all held on with 90 degree angle brackets screwed into blocks of 1x2. 4. An air horn. On the roof. It was a bit much and it's a good thing I took it down. Under one of the mounting pads was a lot of rust. Enough that I'm trying to figure out the best way to patch a roof without setting the insulation on fire. 5. Not really weird or pimped but I pulled the air cleaner to find THE TORNADO. I've only seen them on infomercials, now I own one. It's still on the truck for now but I can't help thinking that it probably does more choking of the motor than it does increasing air flow. |

Re: Unpimping my ride
I posted a couple pictures but they are huge so here are some links instead.
How I brought it home http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...thcheese/1.jpg The headliner, I'm 6'2" so the speakers had to go, unfortunately the mess under the speakers meant the whole headliner had to go too. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...thcheese/5.jpg The air horn http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...thcheese/4.jpg The old door panel http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...hcheese/10.jpg The truck as it sits now. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...thcheese/6.jpg from the back, no more faded tint or window stickers http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...thcheese/8.jpg the door panel stripped and primed, this is temporary until I have the cash for new panels http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t...thcheese/9.jpg |

Re: Unpimping my ride
nice looking truck. when you said shag carpet what came tio mind for me was that carpet that is striny and hangs down a bit like in chech amd chong. My dad 57 belair had blue shag on the dash and around the window before we removed it.

looks like a nice truck on the outside but the interior made me cry

Re: Unpimping my ride
I dunno, that thing was so cheesy it was almost cool. I would've grown a wicked moustache and some mutton chop sideburns and rocked it like it was for a few months. Maybe you should have added some Yosemite Sam ("back off") or chrome nekkid lady mudflaps.

I bet the PO was a truck driver

Re: Unpimping my ride
Why spend so much on new door panels when you can dye thoose and turn out great. I mean they don't lok broken or busted to me. I took the ones out of our old 86 4x4 and dyed them with some cheapo plastikote vinly dye in gloss black and they turned out great. It didn't peel or flake off either. We ALWAYS have the window down and arm on top the door panels, never came off anywhere. I have pics if you are interested.

I was thinking also about trying my hand at making some matching kick panels and door panels and wrapping them with black vinyl. Something simple not like what I pulled out.. |
Re: Unpimping my ride
I thought redneck pimp was in!!!

Re: Unpimping my ride
LMAo matchbox cars lighted up with the trucks lights?????
WTF!!!!!!! LMAO. Yea you might have to sand it down then. I didn't sand mine, they were just faded, so I wiped them off with grease and wax remover then sprayed them with the dye. I think the vinyl would be nice. I wanted to do mine the same way, use some thin carpet like for speaker boxes or something, and do the kick panels, lower doors, and maybe the door panel or dash. I wanna know how people do the dash in material without it wrinkleing up or whatever. Was yours one piece covering the dash? or multiple ones seamed together? Was it wrinkled anywhere before you removed it? If I know it won't wrinkly I'd remove mine, buy some carpet or vinyl, and do it. I just worry about a wrinkle and fadeing. I don't know what you could get that wouldn't fade. I been thinking about making a post about covering dashes with material, so I just might so I can find out info and options. |

You took Yosemite Sam off?!? What's wrong with you? All I can say is "BACK OFF" :haha:

Re: Unpimping my ride
your original interior shots look like someone robbed a fabric warehouse at a conversion van company! other than your interior pimping, it looks like a pretty solid ride though!

Re: Unpimping my ride
Turned out nice, what did you do with the "flame" dice from the steering colume?
|
Re: Unpimping my ride
um...what's up with the 68 in the garage?!
|
Re: Unpimping my ride

Plans so far are, redo the interior, fix some minor body issues, put on a chrome front bumper and painted rear roll pan. Hopefully move the spare tire to under the bed and that's about it. Once that's all done I'm sure I'll find more to do. |
