Stock 454 needs mufflers. Suggestions?

My 87 GMC has a dual exhaust (2.5") on it right now, but it's about ready to fall off. I don't know what mufflers are on it now, but it's got a nice (but fairly quiet) sound. I want something that's a bit aggressive, but not too aggressive because stock motors with no cam don't usually sound very good with real loud mufflers. I'd also like to keep the mufflers somewhat affordable, but not the real cheap ones that rot out in a year or two. Any suggestions? I was thinking about maybe a pair of Hookers or those new Cherry Bomb mufflers.

A couple people now have suggested those. I've always liked dynomax, so maybe I'll give them a try if I don't cheap out and do the $35 welded Summit mufflers. Maybe I'll put the ultraflow on my IROC instead. :D

be glad you arent in oklahoma....prior to joining the military...I got pulled over for speeding (lol), and got written a citation for loud exhaust. I was like wtf?! the Hypo that pulled me over said that modifying your exhaust is illegal (my old setup finally fell off, bailing wire couldnt hold it anymore). so I had 40 series flows put on (left in, center outs) that dump.

lolz...talk about fun eh?

I have the 3" single exhaust,3"cat and 3"in and dual 2.5" out dumped in front of the axle. Love setting off the alarms in the parking lot :hm:

I have my IROC for when I want to set off alarms. For the truck I want something with a good deep tone, but not something so loud that it makes it sound like a POS. Loud exhausts are great on a cammed motor, but with this stock lo-output 454 a loud exhaust sounds too much like a hole in the muffler. But... I want something with enough tone to be pleasing when I step on it.

3 chamber flows man, you just cant beat the sound. I have 2 chamber and a 3" system with hooker headers and I wish I had 3 chambers. 2's are a bit to load but man, they sound great when you whack it!

I put a duel 3" system on my truck with Hooker Aerochamber mufflers dumping just past the pumpkin and it sounds great. Way better then the standard Flowmaster that everyone and their brother has.
