Guage help
 

I have an '82 Scottsdale that I need help with. None of my guages work with the exception of the speedometer. The gas guage reads only 3/8 of a tank when full and the oil, temp, and charging guage do not move at all. They were like this when I bought the truck. I purchased the truck for the main purpose of pulling my boat 1.6 miles to the boat ramp and back. Plz let me know thoughts and ideas on what could be causing this. I am fairly mechanically inclined so if this is not a complicated issue I would like fix it myself.

Could be a ground or crossion. Id take out the gauges and clean everything up.

On my truck way back i had some issue like that but only fuel turns out it was loose. In the back the gauges dont screw in they push into clips and the clips can become loss and just need to be pushed back together to make it tight again.

I had the same problem as you do and I figured I was in for a bunch of troubleshooting to get all the gauges to work. Then....I got out my wire diagram and found which fuse was for the gauges and found it was blown. I replaced it and everything works as it is supposed to. Check your fuse first before you do anything else.

I may be missing it totally but from the wiring diagram I cannot see one fuse controlling al the guages.

Attached is a fusebox illustration for a 1980 truck someone emailed me. You can see that fuse "F" is for gauges, that is what I am referring to. Your box may be different since it is newer.

Got it, it's a 20A, I replaced it and still no go, however, my oil pressure guage now at least moves.

I was keeping my fingers crossed for you. Too bad that did not take care of all of them. Best of luck with your troubleshooting, I hope it is a fairly easy fix.

start checking wires! :D the fun has only began young sky-mholmes....trace all the wires and leads thru the firewall into the engine bay, look for wires that are rubbing all around the back of your engine above the transmission. then check all of your sending units (the speedometer cables arent made like they used to be, hence why I recently went digital...couldnt keep a cable...kept snapping lolz). definately check the sending unit from your fuel tank to your gauge...seems thats a pretty common prob these days.... the temp gauge, is located on the drivers side of the engine, underneath the heads, between the 2 and 4 cylinders its one wire, that usually comes disconnected during driving. should be a green wire? that connects to that lil bitty nob on the block.
