water leaks in near kick panels...any ideas?
 

ok i knew water leaked in my interior for awhile, but putting in new carpet and cant figure out where its coming from, short of pulling off fenders. i can see water drip from behind the brace that the pass side of the dash bolts to, checked grommets that i can see and they look good as do the top fender bolts, poured bucket of water on cowl area without getting any on windsheild and leaks pretty good still, so windsheild is ruled out...

man,iv'e been there.thought i could rule out windshield.guess what? it was the windshield.i have heard of cowl getting crud built up around kick panel vent,i'd pull em and shine a light up thru vent holes,while somebody pours and see what you see.

after banging my head against the wall :banghead: i gave up and took it to a shop that's done glass work for me for year's,they charged me a 1/2 hour to reseal.it took care of it.weird part was i swore it wasn't windsheild.

my other c10 need a lil more then resealing windsheild, most of the lower flange was powder, hmm, ill pull the cowl off and see if can find anything

Well i have a few ideas for you cause i went through it with my 86. My truck leaked in the corner of the windshield passanger side lower.

It also leaked under the valance between windshield and the hood. If you remove that and look were the metal meets the fire wall. The fatory would have sealed the seam with a silicon of some kind. Mine went bad at one spot so i had to reseal it. I used rtv but any thing should do.

Other then that check what boat puller said.

Swervin Ervin had a post on this somewhere on this board several years ago. I think that is the leak his had. It turned out to be a seam somehwere on the cowl. You might search his posts and find it, or PM him.

The door weather stripping on my 78 was basically trash and it allowed water to leak in whenever it rained or I washed the truck. Just something else to consider.

The windshields in these trucks don't require sealant in the tracks. Most of the time when you have a leaks it is due to the drain being clogged with either dirt or glue. The other source is from the cowl area being filled with dirt and then actually rotting out and letting water in. Check your cowl area and clean it out. If it has already started, it will only get worse.

i dunno,he pumped hot melt around the track and took care of it for me.i guess there may have been a spot not sealing down right.that filled with that stuff.that corner seam where cowl and inner cab,fender area meet above the vent is famous for rotting in the seam.one thing the glass guy's know in the n.w is how to keep out water.:)

These trucks have a nasty habit if having the sealer dry out. The stuff that is on the body seams UNDER the cowl. I had to go in and re-apply the sealer on my truck. It was not easy, since there is a lot of seams back under the body sheetmetal that has to be reached with a long arm or tool. This stopped my truck from leaking.

ok cool, im pretty sure its in the cowl area, think i have seam sealer still, but thats a project for whenever it quits raining and snowing

mine was the actual seal between the floor and the side kick panel. There was rust behind the seal between the bottom and the top of the panel.

thanx boys, got pass side fixed, took off kick panel and brushed seam sealer on the 2 seams. drivers side must be windsheild leaking, insulation at the top of firewall is wet. ill pull the windsheild this weekend and buy a new one since its due for a new one anyways
