chrome/SS drip rail molding replacement
Has anyone here changed their drip rail molding? Not by removing the whole black strip that's bolted to the cab, but the chrome or stainless steel molding that's on it?
I wonder if there's a trick to taking it off without tearing yourself up, or getting the new on without damageing it. On our new 84 c10 half the driver's side has been torn off somehow, and I looked in LMC and they sell the chrome/SS part by itself. The black that bolts on is called the retainer by them. So I'm wondering if I buy it how easu it will be to change with it on the truck. I know, I know, I could just get one from a junkyard or another truck and bolt it on, but in order to do that I have to remove my cab visor, and clean the rtv/silicone off and redo all that. Plus I don't like takeing the bolts off and on alot, afraid they'd strip or become enlarged and not hold as good. I figured someone may have changed only the strip on it before and might know if it slides on or snaps over or whatever. |
Re: chrome/SS drip rail molding replacement
it should be like most stainless steel parts and have little metal tabs you ben to make it slide around. Never done it but, that how i would say it works i go out and see what is needed to do it but that what i would guess.

Re: chrome/SS drip rail molding replacement
I didn't pull it all the way off, but you can begin removing it by starting at the front of the trim and pry the lower side of the trim away from the retainer, working towards and down the rear. Take caution not to damage the edge of the trim (and the cab if you're using it for leverage when prying).

Re: chrome/SS drip rail molding replacement
Well half of it is broke off anyways, removing it's no biggie.
I just don't want to trash it when I put on the new one. I might end up just taking the whole thing off and getting one from another truck. That way I can just unbolt it and bolt it back on. |
Re: chrome/SS drip rail molding replacement
Iv'e never done it but i would thing that the new one could have some installation instructions that explain the r&r procedures.
Call LMC and ask if it has the r&r instructions. |
