your thoughts?
 

my 69 has some original paint left on the hood and fenders, all other panels have been repainted. the clear coat on the original paint is really starting to dull and fade. i in no way can afford a complete paint job. im considering breaking down the body parts and getting items painted in sections as i have money (doors, then fenders, then hood, etc...) what are your thoughts on this?

Most normally all parts should be painted at the same time to insure color match and gloss. Metallics and candys especially. The factory original paint on your truck did not have a clear coat. I suggest you work each panel until you have it all done and paint at that time. You will be happier with the result.

buff the truck out..a good buffing & POLISH will do wonders

then your favorite wax :)

I second what Rage said. If you can't afford to paint yet- a little elbow grease will work wonders on an old paint job. Years ago, I had an old beater red Chevy van. The paint was like powder.

I totally went the cheap route. I bought a $15 orbital polisher from harbor Freight, spent a couple of bucks on polishing compound and a few more bucks on cheap wax with color pigment in it. Then i did some serious sweating.

It wasn't a show-car, but wasn;t bad from 20 feet. If nothing else- the paint didn't wipe off on my clothes anymore.

If you are going to buff it be careful. I burned my paint last summer. Use a good buffer and compound. That could cost a few bucks too.
