Choke light on the dash...

I have a 1980 C10, 350 with an edelbrock carb & electric choke. While taking my dash apart to replace some bulbs the other day, I noticed that one of the indicator lights on the dash was "Choke".

This light has never come on for me, and I never even thought to replace this bulb too. My question is, when should this light be on? Is this a light that will come on when the engine is cold and the RPM is higher, letting me know that the choke is doing it's job?

I'm going to see if it's a bad bulb under there today, but I was just curious as to the function of this light.

On a stock carb, power to the choke is controlled by an oil pressure switch. I think the way the light works is that it comes on only if there is not enough oil pressure to send power to the choke. Since you have an edelbrock carb, it might have been disconnected.

If this is the case, what is the one wire for that connects to the housing on the choke?

Also, I put the edelbrock in myself, and that light never came on even when I had the q-jet, and there were no extra wires anywhere that I can see that aren't plugged in anymore...

I have the identical truck except mine's a K10. The light comes on with the ignition when the engine's not running.

I have no idea why it says "choke" on it when in all reality it is an oil pressure / alternator idiot light. It's basically telling you there's something wrong with the engine because the ignition's on, but it's not running. Why that would make the write "choke" on it I don't know.....
