Do you know the exact year the 'gate is?

I believe the break down is 73-76, 77-80, and 81+.

I need a 73-76 unit.

I think on the 81+ the edge detail that is on the top and bottom of yours wraps all the way around.

Do you think you could unscrew the alum panel and snap a pic of the outside...just like in your original picture?? I will be able to tell for sure what year it is off of that. Thanks.

What chrome? Are you referring to the chrome trim strips, or the brushed aluminum insert?

Boaraxman, I only need the 'gate if it is a 73-76, and none of the trim...so you might make out OK here splitting it up if it is the correct year.

Sorry guys I didnt get any email notifications on this thread, yes I still have it and I would part it up provided I can get the pieces of without damage to them. I need to look at it better later and see how hard it would be to take it apart.

I will keep a better "eye" on this thread check back later this evening and let you guys know.

Checked it out. I dont want to try and pull the trim off. I will let the whole gate go for $150 any shipping to be arranged by buyer.

Borax, the alum panel is held on with three, maybe four screws...can you just unscrew them, remove the panel, and snap a pic. The upper and lower trim does not need to be removed to do this, and the whole process should only take a few minutes.

If it is the correct gate, I will definately buy it...hell, you can even keep the panel and sell it separately and make some additional money, either here or on ebay.

Looks like the panel is held by 2 way tape, i'll take another look tonight.

That could be, if it is a 81+ gate. Every 73-80 gate I have seen it is held on by screws, no tape. I have never pulled apart a 81+ gate, so you could be correct.

If you could check that would be awesome. If there are no screws (and it is indeed taped on), then the gate is too new for me and I will have to pass.

Ok guys theres no screws I can see anywhere holding the wide alum. strip. Whats really funny is the guy I got it from was convinced it was off a '71, I gave up aurguing with him and bought anyways:crazy:

Really?? Were you looking for the screws on the outside or inside of the gate? They would be on the inside, going thru the tailgate itself, into the panel.

You may have known that...but I thought all these panels were screwed on, and not adhered like you are describing.

I was looking at it fom both ends, there are big screws on the inside of the gate but nothing that looks like it would be holding that strip.

Tell you what BB73, this weekend when I get some time I will drag it in the living room and put on the latex gloves and give it a good exam;)

Im really not a slouch and am quite capable of workin on chit so I will get it figured out...but hopefully someone can chime in before that....

If you are referring to the inside (like the part you would sit on if the gate were in the down position), not the sides (where the latching mechanisms would be), of the tailgate...then those are them! :)

One more request, you can either just tell me or take a pic if it is easier, is the inside of the tailgate as clean as the outside? For example, is it bowed, dented badly, rusy...etc.??

Also, I only need the tailgate...none of the trim. Jmac11 can have that if he likes.
