Newbie needs help with 20" wheels and lowering 71
Hey guys I'm new here and would like to get some advise on wheels. I have a 71 Cheyenne swb fleetside bbc truck that I recently bought. I'm considering going with a 4/6 drop and want to run 20" Vintec's. I have read several post and even done a search but can't get exactly what info I need. I want to tuck as much tire and wheel as I can on the rear and front but want to stick to a 40 or 45 series on rear and maybe 35 series tires on the front to give it a nice rake. I have seen were guys are running 20X10 with a 5 1/4"bs and a 295/40/20 and 20X8.5 with 4 1/2" bs with a 235/40/20 tires. The rear seems a little wide and I'm not sure if they won't rub.
I need help on this bad guys!! I want as much dish also on the rear, so if some of you 20" guys could give me some advise and show me some photo's it would be geatly appreciated. Also any advise on the drop would also be appreciated!! |

Hey there, I have a 72 and made the mistake not to use spindles. you want to start with some 2.5 spindles and 2in springs in the front. For the rear 5 or 6 in. springs. My truck is bagged and I could comfortably run 22" all around without any modifications. My truck came with 15" 295/50 wheels and tires and there is plenty room to go. If you plan on using 20'', this should be the winning formula. Also you should check out www.porterbuiltstreetrods.com I just recently found him through here. He can sell you custom corvette frontends with rack and pinion steering at a very acceptible price. It will make your truck handle. If I would have known a year ago, that is where I should have started.

I also have a 71 Cheyenne short box. I would use the spindles to lower it. I have spindles and air bags and running 20's. I have 20x8.5 on the front with 255/40R20's and 20x10 in the rear with 295/35R20's. The fronts are a 5" backspace and the rear is a 6" backspace. You should be able to get away with a 5.5 to 5.75 back space on the rear wheels. Here is a photo. Good luck and make sure to post some pics.
