Bags & Springs ?

I'm wondering how to lower the rear of my longbed when loading stuff
like my motorcycle
but not have to rely on bags alone
I want a lower than stock stance but not dragging.
I'm ok with c-notching if needed
would'nt a low rate rear coil with bags also give me smooth ride ,
hauling ability and be able to drop the back end a fair amount ?
thanks for any idea's or suggestions

I believe just some rear bags would be the best, just swap them over in place of the coils. Then a small compressor and dinky tank would keep just enough air to raise and lower every once in a while, as I understand you don't want to "play" with bags. But some bags in stock location and a bolt in notch would help you load bikes, but it wouldn't be super fast back to ride height, only trade off.

You could use a low rate coil and a bag, but I don't know where you could find a low enough coil rate and/or a place to easily put the bag. Also, if you run a coil and bag, the box will kick up when you take the bike down, which isn't good.

With a low rate coil and bag you would more or less be relying on the bag anyhow. If it was empty your height would drop because the spring wouldn't hold the weight without it. If your springs were strong enough to hold the weight they wouldn't drop any to load/unload your toys. If you put a bag in place of the spring with a small bolt in notch or something of the sort the ride will be nice, adjustable, and in the event of failure the axle would just bottom out in the notch leaving the truck still drivable.

Re: Bags & Springs ?

Sounds like I should just do bags in the back .
my plans are a 2.5 drop front and 4" rear (which if bagged would be adj.) cool!
with that goal how would the ride be with 4" lower than stock , i'm wondering
if that'd be alot of air (bouncy & stiff ) ?
cause most of the bagged trucks I see are much lower than I would be
Thanks

Re: Bags & Springs ?

Well...there's a fix for that too. Depending on your fab ability it wouldn't take much to build a cup like in the front to adjust your optimum ride height. I'm not sure exactly how high it would ride without one (mine's one of the low ones) but if you look around someone probably even makes one. I know there are several guys on the site that have just spring replacement bags, one of them will chime in sooner or later.
