speaker reccomendation

i need a couple of new speakers.......looking at lower door install.i just bought a panasonic cd with ipod hookup.i don't want to spend much over a hundred.i'm not big into sound systems .just want a good sounding 6 inch round or maybe 6x9.i listened to some 6x9 jbl's that i thought sounded good for 119.00 and some infinity 5 1/2 rounds for 99.any suggestions?

Infinity Kappa's are probably more what you're looking for...

don't cut the door!
Save some $ and buy some kick panels. Then buy some speakers.

whats your thought's on cutting door?is it a sound quality issue or do you mean just not hacking for other reasons?as far as going for stock, leave it alone reason's thats waaaay too late, not much stock left on this one .;) i just never have been a big fan of kick panel speakers.i don't really have a reason.just don't like the look of speakers in that location i guess. i don't really now the new brands to well.all i reconize are sony, pioneer, and jvc.don't think i want anything named "pile".doesn't sound like a promising future if there calling it pyle.

Re: speaker reccomendation

One thing that you may not ahve considered while placing these speakers is human error.

I wear some relatively heavy steel toe shoes to work. Alot of times I get off at 2am or later and I'm beat, just not caring and I either kick, scrape, or graze the grill on my door speakers. It's not so much of a problem with the kick panel speakers.

From listening to a bunch of different speakers, you'll probably either want a set of Infinity Kappa's or Boston Accustic's. OF course, speaker selection makes a big difference depending on the type of music you listen to.

Re: speaker reccomendation

really? i have steel toed 14's.i figured it would be worse with kick panels....i don't drive it to work very often.i work at one of the worst polluters in wash.st...pulp mills put out some fallout. i just not a kick panel lover.maybe some boxes behind the seat and a couple little guys in the dash........classic rock..and country..zz top..merle...commander cody.

Re: speaker reccomendation

Probably two 4" speakers in the dash and 2 6x9's in the rear will do great. I would reccomend Pioneer all around.

boatpuller 04-19-2007 11:14 PM

Re: speaker reccomendation

i don't think my dash has a spot for speakers on the side's of the dash like later years.at least theres no vent holes in dash pad for them.may have to figure out a way to mount them up underneath and point them straight down.leaning towards infinity and pioneer, seem to be good choices without breaking the bank.

Re: speaker reccomendation

Pioneer makes some great 6x9 speakers. Putting those in a small box(s) behind the seat would be ideal. As for the dash, how did the factory have it setup?

Re: speaker reccomendation

not sure of what models got two front speakers in 79.maybe just silverados?i just have a one 4x10 in center.mine was a deluxe.whe i bought it it had been pretty well gutted.so i'm not really sure what it came with.i'm thinking of fabbin some brackets off inner dash or something.

Re: speaker reccomendation

If you want to put speakers in the door, I would go withe the following brands: Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood, Infinity, Diamond, MB Quarts. I would do a 5.25 or 6.5 speaker.

If you want to put them in the dash, you can make a template, and mount 2 3.5 speakers. IMO as long as you go with a speaker that has a tweeter and a cone, you can't go wrong in a 3.5. I would not recommend dual cone 3.5. Name brand doesn't matter here so much, because it is a 3.5" speaker. i have 3.5 in my 72 and they are a no name that sell for 30.00 a pair and they sound as good, if not better than any name brand 3.5.

Now for my recommendation.
I would go with the 3.5" in the dash and I would put 6x9" in boxes and have them behind the seat. This set-up maybe a little more than the 100.00 but shouldn't cost more than 180.00 with all the materials.

Go luck on your quest.

Re: speaker reccomendation

got a couple of 6x9 pioneer premiers today and 2 boxes.they sound awesome.i'll have to trim the boxes to stuff in corners.

boatpuller 04-22-2007 07:13 PM

Re: speaker reccomendation

cut some of those 6x9 boxes to fit into cab corners and put rammat(dynamat) in cab corner area.got a good angle to them so they aren't shooting directly at the seat.they sound awesome.i think i will end up doing a couple of kick panel 5 1/4's to balance it out.

Re: speaker reccomendation

Are you going to do components in the kicks or just a set of coaxials?

I am partial to JBL's. Have had them in my home for many years and have carried it over to the truck. I am using 2 10" JBL subs in my stepside.

I run Infinitys all the way around in my '02, nice crisp and clear. Had in the past run Pioneers, good speakers for the $.

Re: speaker reccomendation

:agree:
Call me crazy, I actually like the infinity reference better than the more expensive Kappas, to me they just sound better...

I only run infinity, but then again i can order them directly from Harman Kardon(parent company) so i get them for less than half price... :)

--EDIT--->
For those that don't know, JBL is owned by harman Kardon also. I have some 12" JBL subs that i bought in '99 (pre harman) and they still rock. :metal:

Re: speaker reccomendation

I like Polk and Infinity for low to mid installs.

If you have the cab room (most of us don't) a pair of Bose patio style speakers make an outstanding choice for mid level stereos.

Re: speaker reccomendation

6X9's cant take the beating 6 1/2"'s can. get 6.5 alpine S types they're 110 bucks canadian and they sound really good. also polk audio sells a pretty good 6.5 for about the same price
