Dex III in Powerglide - Help...
I know this issue is not on my '64, but my '55 has a powerglide too and you guys know your stuff..
Soo... Today, I did a lumbnuts move.. The Powerglide on my '55 leaks. I added 1/2qt of Dex III, then drove it around the block.. When I got back, I decided to read the manual... DOH!!!! TYPE "A" fluid only.. Did I hurt the tranny?? I was going to change the fluid, but do I need to flush it too?? I don't know too much about tranny fluid. I just get what the manual says.. Most of the time I read before I add fluid.. Thanks, Elias |
Re: Dex III in Powerglide - Help...
It should be fine. I doubt there will be any problem. I would imagine the manual was written before there were so many types of transmission fluid.

Re: Dex III in Powerglide - Help...
Should I still drain it??
I did a search on the net and found that some Dex III meet Type A requirements and others don't say either way. Do all or only some meet Type A requirements? Thanks, Elias |
Re: Dex III in Powerglide - Help...
I think type A requirements are actually exceeded by the dexron/mercon fluid. Type A fluid was the first, I believe. Ford used type F, which had a little different friction modifiers in it. The Dexron superceeds the type A, I believe.
