oil leak help

Hey people,
Im having major problems with my 87 full size blazer 4x4. I have a nice steady drip of oil coming down near the filter area. I thought at first a fitting for the oil cooler was loose. I looked into it somemore and got oil dripped all over me. Above the filter on the block I have a roughly 3/8th inch pipe thats about 3 inches long with a 90 deg fitting on the end. Threaded into it is a sensor of some sort with a wire coming out of it. If I pop the hood it is directly behind the ds exhaust manifold. Well anyway the oil appears to be coming out of this sender. I dont think this has anything to do with the oil pressure gauge as the sender for that is behind the throttle body. What is this "sender" ? Can I just plug it off and be good to go?

That one sounds like the O.P. sender if it's leaking oil and the other one sounds like the water temp. sender, Un-plug the wire and check your O.P. light/gauge.

Why not just replace the sender? Unless your truck has been converted to a carb, the '87s are fuel injected. I have no idea what the sender is (I would guess oil pressure switch for the choke if it was an early 80s model), but fuel injection does not like it when you remove senders it relies on.

Re: oil leak help

On my 86 camaro that was fuel injected it had 2 senders there, one was oil pressure sender and the other was for the fuel pump, what it did was shut down the pump if the oil pressure dropped too low or to zero. It was stock but I had never seen or heard of it before.

Most I've seen are just the oil pressure sender for the light or guage, and I agree, unplug it and turn the key on, see where the guage goes then.
