Leaf spring count
Does anyone have a list or link to a description of leaf spring options or standards.
Basically I'm wondering how many leafs were stock for a 1/2 ton, how many were part of the heavy duty package how many were used for the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Searching around I've seen everything from 3-12 leaf setups mentioned. I have 8 per side so I'm assuming they are either after market or part of a heavy duty package. |
Re: Leaf spring count
on a 2wd c10 1986 i had four as the standard i went and found 8s out of a 3/4 ton and installed them for the added weight i pull and im told that 8 was a standard on the 3/4 and 4 was on the 1/2 tons by a local spring guy here . apparently there were even more on the ambulance and real heavy chassis

Re: Leaf spring count
My 82 1/2ton 2wd longbed had the 56" leaves with 4 or 5... my 87 GMC 1/2 ton 2wd longbed had 52" leaves with 1 less leaf than the 82.
I believe the 82 was a camper special.. I dont believe the 87 was.. |
Re: Leaf spring count
In general: 1/2T were 4+overload 3/4T (heavy half/HD rear suspension) were 7+overload and were 56" long.

Re: Leaf spring count
Thanks guys, I'm going to measure the springs tonight to see if they are the 52" or 56" so I have a better idea of what I'm working with. If the HD springs in the rear came from the factory is there any difference in the front suspension?

Re: Leaf spring count
'73 Custom Deluxe. The glove box options sticker is gone so I'm not sure if it came with 8 leafs from the factory or if they were added later.

Re: Leaf spring count
My 73 has eight...and they are factory.
